Spiders?

On the "Who's Online" part of the board it says 1 Spider....

What is this?

It was explained once before so that I understood it. A search engine, like google for instance, sends out 'spiders' to look for what is happening and where. Then when you type in a key word in a search, like "ghost", it may offer up this site for you to look through.
It would be nicer if they called them crickets or ladybugs or something more acceptable.

Tina is correct.  These "crawlers" index the pages they are crawling.  Without the spiders and the bots, we would have a hard time finding things on the internet.
