Okay, here is my latest project. I spent about 2 hours planning out the whole thing - including sizes and measurements - and then Adam says that it need to have 1 inch thick foam on it.
So another 2 hours of planning, a few hours making a prototype, then making the "for realsies", and only 2 swear words later: (clickables)
This is a modified messenger bag for Lindsay's Leapster that she is getting on Sunday for her birthday. I made my own piping, which was a first and fun, and putting it on was an adventure and a first as well. Oh and I made the applique with fleece and blanket stitched it. The coolest part is that I designed this on my own - no recipe! And it actually looks good, I think.

Sarah, that is the most adorable little purse/tote I have seen. What an awesome project and it looks so nice. That is something I would buy at a craft fair.

Only two swear words, Sarah?
If it had been me trying to design and make that bag, the neighbors would have sworn that a sailor was here making it!
Great job! Lindsay is sure to love it!

Yup, only 2 swear words and one was when I stuck my hands in hot soapy water to wash up some dishes and I realized that I must have pricked my hands and fingers A LOT more than I had thought.
Thanks, I'm glad you all like it! I know Lindsay will 'cause she was around when I was making it and kept asking if I would make her something with the cherry fabric. I can't put away my sewing machine until Lindsay opens all her gifts which are hiding in the spot for my machine, so I made a Kleenex cozy this morning, took all of 5 minutes (I did have a recipe though).

Looks great, Sarah!
Thanks for the pattern site link for the tissue cozy. I might could handle that one...
My mother-in-law sent me a couple of packs of patterns. One is for robes/nightgowns; the other is for a dress or jumper. She told me that the robe would be easiest for me to learn to sew on. I am not too sure about that....

Beginners should start with simple patterns, Dianna. Because when you start setting in sleeves or zippers, the language on the patterns is often confusing. It isn't all that hard to do, just following the directions is tough sometimes.

This cozy is simple, simple, simple! All you have to do is sew 6 somewhat straight seams in the right spot and turn something inside out. Sewing isn't too difficult, if I can do it, anyone can.

Here are a couple things I've sewn up recently. The first is a dress I made from an old tee-shirt of mine. I really love the loaf of bread and "loafin' around" on it.
This is a lunchbox that I made using
this tutorial
. I lined it with Insul-brite - so that way my food will actually stay cool. I got to use it for the school trip to the zoo and out for some quick fishing trips. It is a good size for a few cans of pop plus sandwiches or snacks. I love the little placemat that goes with it - Miss Lindsay likes to set her food on the ground/picnic table/whatever now she sets it on the clean, washable placemat instead.

Sarah Loo, that dress is just too cute!
Looks like the model is very comfortable in it, too. She sure is pretty...
That lunchbox with the placemat is a neat idea. Small enough to grab on the way out the door and you won't have to lug a huge cooler all around whatever area you are playing or fishing at...

Thanks, Dianna, I sure do think she's cute (and so does she!) but I may be biased.
Triss, glad that ya like them! I'm a little worried that Lindsay's dress looks like a nightgown, what do you guys think?

It is a bit in the style of a nightgown but is an adorable dress too.

A friend of mine asked me to make her a baby carrier, a mei tai, and I finished it up and sent it off to her this week. Here is the finished product. It was sure a lot of fun to make and she loves it. I am hoping to get a picture of her with her son in it soon.
