My first Commission Cake--Pic Heavy!!

A friend that Adam works with asked me if I would make her a cake for her son's 4th Birthday Party. She wanted something fish-water-pirate themed and she offered to pay for ingredients plus time.
Well, we all know that you don't charge friends for your time but she absolutely insisted. She suggested several very simple cakes until I found this one. The cake was a made-from-scratch strawberry cake the batter was excellent but the cake was gross (it was cakey, eeeewwww--I should probably mention that I hate cake) although the texture was dead on. The only problem I had with the cake was the jello. I can add jello to the list of cake mix and hamburger helper - which is everything that I can't cook for some reason. Oh yeah, I spent about 6 hours decorating everything for the cake. Pics are clickies btw.

The water looks so real. It appears to have some depth. Great job!

What a great cake, Sarah!
Wish you had been around when my kids were little to make theirs for them.
I bet that little four-year-old was tickled over it...

Good job, Sarah-loo!
What a clever idea! I think I'd have had a hard time getting myself to cut into something that cute.
Do you do weddings?

That is one great cake! I love it.
Bet you had fun "dressing" the teddy bears, right?

I'll give you one hint: my sister is getting married in November.
She wants a cake similiar to
this one here.
Except it's going to look more like the layers are falling off the cake and will be in white and ivory, or white and her wedding colors, or just her wedding colors, she can't really decide!

That was the best part! I was going to put polka-dots on that itty-bitty yellow bikini but I was worried I could only get one dot on each of the top triangles and I didn't want anyone to think I was making an adult joke on a kid's cake!!
And I forgot to mention that since she bought all the candy and whatnot for the cake, I filled each of the extra ice cream cones with the leftover candy, then wrapped in saranwrap and tied with string. Tossed them all in a basket for an ice cream cone bouquet/centerpiece and each cone went home with a kiddo.

I had been thinking of all the leftover sweets from that cake and thinking your kids had a sugar high going on for days, Sarah.
I was sure that I posted here before. That is a super cake. You did a great job.
