Does elevation effect when I bring my plants in?
« on: Sep 04, 2008, 06:41:59 AM »
i've always lived at sea level and now I'm in foothills at about 10,000 feet and the weather has got me confused.  It is in the lower 70's in the mornings and then climbs for the 90's during the afternoon.

I don't want to loose my peppers and celosia.  So any idea when i should think about bringing them inside?

If in doubt, maybe you should go ahead and bring them in?

I have lots of plants outside that need to be brought in, but I don't think that summer has had its last hurrah yet. I think I will be waiting a bit to see if things heat back up... :grinnnn:

Boy talk about a confusing title...I changed it to "Does elevation effect when I bring in my plants?"

I think the cool weather does arrive sooner at the higher elevations.  I don't think it is significant enough to schedule a date to bring them in.  Instead you just need to watch the weather and get them in when the temps start to dip lower than what the plants like.

I liked the title, but must admit I thought maybe you had lots of centipedes or something in your garden... :giggle:

At least it grabbed our attention and made us read the post!... :grinnnn:

lol, sorry about that.  sometimes my mind just isn't very good at communicating what's going on up there.

I've noticed since moving to town from the foothills, that I have about a week longer to my "summer", sometimes even more.

My best indicators are the hills around me. When I start seeing even a hint of yellow on the trees near the top of the hill, it's time to bring in my plants.

Do you have higher hills around you that you could keep an eye on?

not really but the trees here started to yellow in august because of the drought.

Maybe after the storms pass I'll start bringing things in.
