Charleston Ghost walk or Jail tour
« on: Oct 06, 2008, 07:16:26 PM »
This is not really an event or outing, guess it could be.  Has anyone done this and does anyone have recommendation??  I want to go on one particularly the old city jail, but would appreciate recommendations.  Also it would be nice to get together with some of you local folks.  Just a thought.

Dianna, Aunt Bonnie and I all did the City Jail tour with a group that was organized out of Summerville.  It was a special tour that was the last one of the night and we got to stay a bit longer than the normal times.  I'm not sure if there is anything on here about it or not.

We also signed up for the Charleston Ghost Tour once but got turned around and didn't make it there in time.  Of course you don't get your money back when that happens.

I think that it would be enjoyable for you, UG, but don't expect too much. On a regular tour they sorta herd you through in less than an hour. The history of the jail is pretty interesting. On the tour that Jim, Dianne and myself went on we had a really good tour guide. He spun a great yarn about Lavinia Fisher, but I don't think he let the truth stand in the way of a good story.

I also spent the night there on an investigation. It was really interesting. I do think that there is a post on here somewhere about it.

A tip for you if you go to the jail. Don't stand on the bottom step with no one on the flight of stairs above you. You might get a scare. :giggle: I got the beejeebers scared out of me!

Jim was at the bottom of the flight of stairs and I was on the bottom step. I can't remember which floor we were on. We were listening to our guide tell us the history of the building. Anyway, something lightly touched me on the butt. I came off that step in a hurry, too... :yikes:

If you go on the Charleston Ghost tours, make sure that you get there early. Parking is hard to find at the times that the tours are scheduled... ::)

Parking was hard to find on the tour we missed, but the jail shouldn't be bad because they have their own parking space behind the jail.

This is where we were talking about doing a ghost walk. I had fallen and hurt my foot the Monday before we were to go, I think... ::)

I mentioned a little about the jail in this topic in a response to one of Wrennie's topics...

My husband and I went March of this year. The place was alitle creepy, the metal things they put up to rope off areas began to shake alittle and people were going back trying to snap photos and figure it out.

I hear the one in Wilmington, NC is a better one to go to, especially during the Halloween holidays time. The have a candle light walk through the old cemetery.
