Hi, Charlotte. Was happy to see you figured out how to post your pics here. I am hoping to see some good close-ups when you get the chance.

Are these decorated for the Easter Bunny? I am asking because I saw the photos over at GH on the past holidays....

You really do wonderful work with miniatures. I don't know if I would have the patience to try itty-bitty, but if my grand-daughters want one, Grandpa will have to get/build them one for us to decorate!  ;D

That's a big house!  :D  Did you build the house too or just decorate and furnish it?

I'm not sure I have the right tools to build one of these.  They look pretty fancy.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the compliments....although I wasn't fishing...lol

I do try to decorate the dollhouse for each holiday. I'll try to post the Easter/Spring photos too. I have Halloween,Fall, Christmas, Winter and Valentine's Day. I use alot of scrapbooking decorations as they fit perfectly for the 1" scale.

We bought the dollhouse a kit many years ago. Dollhouses in kit form come flat in a box, the pieces are all cut out and need sanding and paint. I started to build the dollhouse on my own, but soon realized I needed my husband's help. So when he asked what I wanted for Christmas one year......I said an engineer and it won't cost you anything but time. So the dollhouse came together better when we made it a team effort. My hubby assembled all the double hung windows and doors (they really open and close) he did all of the electrical work and even changed the little tiny plugs for the lights . Each of the electrical outlets have a little porcelain outlet and a brass cover. Let's just say it has tons of details. The first floor is all hand layed wood? flooring, sanded and then I sealed it with polyurothene.
I collected the things inside for the dollhouse over many, many years as it would be impossible to find everthing all at once.........

I'll show photos, but I don't want to brag nor bore anyone....it's just a cool fun hobby.

The back of the dollhouse has custom built plexiglass doors that can be closed to keep dust out......my mini maid goes on vacation and she doesn't loke to see too much dust when she returns.........lol

Jim and Dianna.....how old are your grand daughters? They would probably love a dollhouse to play with......it would be a very fine motor activity though..... sometimes too fine for me as I have glued a few things in place so they won't keep falling over

Inside the dollhouse with the hardwood flooring.....this is the living room

Charlotte, the granddaughters are 9 months old and 2 and 1/2 years old. I don't think they are quite ready for all the fine motor skills the house would entail. When they get older, though, Grandpa will be having to learn how to build one, I am sure.  ;)  That is, if they don't turn into total tomboys!  :D

I love the beautiful hardwood flooring. I never realized the full details that you have put into your dollhouse. It is gorgeous! Wonder if Alice In Wonderland has left "drink me" bottle around here?  ;D I could come live there!

I don't think you could bore me with pictures of this house. It is fantastic! Keep the pics coming, please...

Hi Dianna,

Little Girls are so precious....... :)
I totally have the dollhouse decked out.....it has alot of cool stuff including tiny 1"scale silverware(flatware for dollhouses)

I hope at least one of your gran-daughters will grow up to be into a dollhouse. That would be really cool for Grandpop to build a dollhouse, start looking for things now while they're little and by the time they are old enough....you will be ready to furnish a dollhouse for them. The fun of collecting over the years makes it special too as I can remember where I bought and with whom when I bought it. Like if I was out shopping with my MOM whom is totally Special to me, so they are great memories.....Thankfully, she is a healthy 70 year old this year, I even have her buying me minis when she finds something cute.

Here are a few more photos, I have my Holiday Decorations up for Easter.....

Wow, Charlotte! That is sooo cute!  :) I can see where it would be fun to have a little house to decorate...

I bet that silverware is so tiny that you can't see it!  ;D

Do you decorate your home like you do your dollhouse for the seasons?

Well, I try to....but I have been taking the easy way out and just decorating the dollhouse. Since we have a relatively small livingroom and since the dollhouse is in the living room it takes up some room. And since we don't have children....I'd rather decorate the dollhouse..... We would like to buy a bigger house in the future so that will be a consideration......more room......
I would love to build a 2 car garage and have it on a platform with landscaping and all.....some day.... but for now I just have the fun decorating.......

Wow, those pics are amazing.  There is so much detail.  I can't imagine wiring the electric.  Do you have to use tweezers?  Where do you find the little light bulbs?  When I first saw the pics I was thinking that I saw a kit somewhere but from the looks of these you have a special talent for decorating.  Where do you find the miniatures to go inside?  Most of the items look like antiques to me.

I don't know if I have a steady enough hand to build something that small.  :D

It's actually not that difficult to build a dollhouse and really the 1" scale is not too bad. They have even smaller scalles that would be much more tedius to work with like 1/44th" scale....they even have dollhouses you can build to put in your 1" scale dollhouse. I've decided that would really be nerve wracking.....

I use alot of different things in the dollhouse, like some of the wallpaper I printed on cardstock from the internet,I used doublesided scotch tape to hang the wallpaper. This way if I want to change the wallpaper I already have my template.

The kitchen wallpaper is from the internet........if you go back and look you can't even tell it's cardstock.....The nursey also has cardstock internet wallpaper.

I collect things here and there when I'm out shopping. And the people I've picked up here and there and the teddybears are BOYD'S teddy bears, they were the perfect scale.

Here's some toys for the nursery *broken link removed*
Hobby Builder's Supply is a great place to start.

Jim, If you start building now it will be finished by the time your granddaughters are old enough to enjoy it........just teasing... :)

Those little toys are just too cute!  :)

Yes, I think Jim needs to start building on the dollhouses as soon as he gets through with his ham shack. Gotta keep him in projects to make use of all the tools out there in the shed.... ;D

That would be great if Jim built the girls a dollhouse each (they could be neighbors) lol, it would be even neater if you got involved too...it's a great thing to do together. My hubby and I had a nice time working on it together, for some things need a woman's touch (litrally) as some of the detail is very fine motor and needs a delicate touch. I did all of the painting and some assembly....he did all of the electeric. And put all the windows and things together ......

I think that would be a neat thing to do........when are you starting the dollhouses? lol

Tell Jim to hurry and finish the ham shack.....what is a ham shack by the way? Is it used for curing ham (smoking it)?

Charlotte, a "ham" in this house is a amateur radio enthusiast. If you read the topic "Jim's New Ham Shack", it will explain it more thoroughly...

Yes, I see where a dollhouse would have to be a joint venture. I think we would recruit Aunt Bonnie to help us work on it, too... ;D

Dahhh...lol I should have thought of that too, but the "shack" threw me I guess. Around here in PA ham ....to me ham  is meat to eat......and shack with ham  equated to smokehouse.....lol

Sorry to be gooofy.....

I don't consider that goofy. That is exactly what I would have thought before I met Jim....

Great detail work on the house...

I believe you would get along well with Aunt Bonnie because that's what she thinks about when she hears "ham shack".  She starts getting hungry.

Where do you get these kits that you mentioned?

There is so much detail in there.  It looks like you are looking through the window of a real house.  Rearranging furniture would sure be easier on your back in there.

Those are beautiful.  Now all you need is a little garden right outside the house.

lol, about the ham thing....I'm more used to the food than the radio.......

Thanks,
I bought my dollhouse at Frank's Nursery and Crafts years ago. You can buy dollhouses from Hobby Builder's Supply Company or any other Craft/hobby shoppes.....or surf the net under 1"scale dollhouses I'm sure there are alot of them out there.....

We used to have a few dollhouse stores in my area so it was somewhat easy to find furniture and things. I have made things for the dollhouse on my own and other's have made me things too.

I made the mini quilt for the bed and a net friend made the mini rug .......I really have a blast decorating, and re-decorating....lol

this was decorated for Easter

Edited by Dianna: Photo was removed out of photo bucket account by author, so they are no longer available.

I would love to put the dollhouse on a large platform and landscape it all out....with a garden, flower beds and a 2 car garage.......We need to buy a bigger home for that though.....

Even the little people from mcdonalds work for the scale.....*broken link removed*

This is part of the livingroom..... :) *broken link removed*

Your doll house is beautiful. I was in the craft store the other day, and I saw some furniture for doll houses.

Shucks I could almost by furniture for my house with the cost of some of them. They are pretty darn expensive.

The more I see, the more incredible your dollhouse gets! Does anyone hold dollhouse "homeshows" anywhere?  I would think they could be entered in the hobby section at local fairs, etc., but I mean real competition or galleries where such hobbies can go on display.

I like the idea of setting up a whole yard, with landscaping & everything!  (Other people take up their entire basements with model trains, so why not?) Gosh, you could have a garden shed with an itty bitty lawnmower & hand tools... even install plumbing, so you can have little automatic sprinklers for your "chia lawn", & maybe grow some of those miniature bonzai plants, for trees!

If you had a yard for it, you could even have clotheslines strung up out back, just like "big people" have.  (Oops... I don't think I saw a laundry room! Time to knock a wall out & make an addition, I guess.)

I would love to do a platform with the dollhouse and a lawn..... I love all of your ideas though....... I even like the chia lawn.....I really like the clothesline idea too.....

I have alot of Boyd's Bears living in there, with just enough dolly's too
