Faucet leaks at top of spigot
« on: Mar 29, 2009, 01:48:40 PM »
Oh... so I have a question that needs help.  Our kitchen sink faucet has a leak right at the top of the 90 degree angle from the body of the faucet to where the water comes out.  We turn on the water and get shot at with it.  Dan has tried to solder it with no luck and right now it is covered in black electrical tape.  Any ideas on a more permanent fix until I can get out and buy a new piece?

Oh, those new faucets are expensive, Triss. But I don't know of an actual fix. When I tried finding a fix for a similar problem it was a huge mess. Pray the tape holds until you can afford that new faucet.
Or maybe someone else will come along with a better clue for you

So far it is not a huge mess, just shocking when you have water in your face. :grinnnn:  You are right about the expense of a new faucet, they sure are not cheap, even the cheap ones.

No, have not tried either of those.  I will have to look for them next time I head over to WM.

Well if it works on a radiator... it should work on a kitchen sink.  It is on my shopping list!

My local ace hardware sold me a faucet for 34.00 dollars.  Except for getting the hot water disconnected the replacement wasn't too difficult.  Now I have a faucet with a spray hose and I love it.

That is not too bad.  I will be looking at a new faucet whenever I manage to get over to the store.  I did not make it there today.

Triss, is this faucet leaking at a moving part? Where the spigot moves side to side? Just curious.

No it is at the top part at the top of the 90 degree angle before the spot where the water comes out.  When the water is turned on before we taped it, we would get wet.  I just made a pic.  I should have done that earlier.

OK, I hope the jb weld will do it for you until you can get a new one.

Can you actually see a hole there?  If the leak is there, there must be a worn spot.  If the jbweld don't work, it's definitely calling for a new faucet.

I changed the topic name to better reflect the problem as well.

No problem Jim.  Yes there is a hole there.  I am sure it is from getting banged around with a cast iron skillet.  I know I have hit it once or twice and Patrick hits it quite a bit when doing dishes.  I am going to look for a taller faucet when I get a new one.

This is actually a good leak. (A bad leak is one that leaks whether the water is turned on or not.) The fact that you can redirect this one with the tape so you don't get sprayed is pretty good. It gives you time to get your pennies lined up. I like those fixes. I hope the weld works for you. For long enough to replace when it is more financially convenient.
