I like the idea of the birds on the animals backs.  Just don't do any flowers.  I've heard you're not too good at those.

Here are pics of the embroidered animals.  I've decided to leave the elephant and the giraffe un-embellished.  I think the simplicity of their design emphasizes the mother-baby bond and that embellishing would distract from that.  I'm not sure about the birds now.  I think they'd be adorable but Adam says that they would add a "cartoonish" feeling to the quilt.  <ahem> and a purple polka dot hippo doesn't??

Unfortunately, not yet.  I have the fabric, I just need to get it framed up and then quilted.  I also have to plan my sister's baby shower for next month but this house stuff may get in the way... When did I get so busy??  Thanks for the reminder, Jenn, though, I need to get started on it!!

Thanks!  I could probably sew it up in just a couple days, I just need to find the time.  My sister is coming over, so maybe this will free up some time tomorrow or something and I can get this puppy started!

Walmart has the best prices for stuff like rotary cutting supplies, like the mats, rulers, and cutter itself.  I love rotary cutting--it is the fastest, easiest and most accurate way to cut stuff.  I get a lot of my fabric from Hobby Lobby and some from JoAnne's.  Look for JoAnne's flyers in the store, as they usually have a 50% off coupon in them.  Check online for Hobby Lobby, they often have a 40% off coupon in them.

I  need a coupon because the stuff at Walmart to make a quilt is $11.44 per yard.

I'm not sure since I don't know what I'm doing.  It sort of looked like cotton.

You were probably looking at a natural cotton batting.  I like it a lot more than the "lofty" polyester stuff.  Unless you plan on quilting it, though, the cotton has a tendency of separating and becoming clumpy.  You can buy packages of it pre-cut to bedding sizes for fairly cheap, then just fold or trim it to the size you need.

I do need to get this going soon.  I've spent the last 2 hours working on chores so I'll have time to start cutting the strips tomorrow.  The baby shower that I'm planning was going to be on Oct 24th but with our closing date on the house listed as Oct 23rd, I won't be able to swing the original date.  However, the closing date may get pushed to a later date, so for the moment we are sitting in limbo waiting to see if our offer is accepted, and if so, if the closing date needs adjusting.  Once we know that, then I can start on the baby shower...
