Philly Cheese Steak with a Twist

Yes, I was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and lived there for over 30 years! I've been eating Cheese Steaks and Hoagies (subs) for most of my life. Here's how I like to made mine homemade...

Ingredients:

8 slices of frozen steak sandwich meat or freshly sliced equivalent.
1/2 sliced medium onion.
1 1/2 tsp salt.
1 tsp garlic powder.
1 tsp pepper.
1 tsp dried thyme.
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce.
1 oz. chopped mushrooms (optional).
   
1 handful of shredded cheese - I like Kraft Mexican 4 Cheese Blend.
1 1/2 slices of your favorite cheese, broken into small pieces.
1/2 sliced green and/or red pepper (optional).
Thick steak sauce like Lea & Perrins, enough to lightly coat steak.

How to Prepare:

    Directions:

    1. In a large skillet, on medium heat, add steak, onions, salt, pepper, thyme, Worcestershire sauce, and any of the "optionals". Fry until liquids runs clear. Continue frying until meat is lightly browned.

    2. Drain oil from pan but do not remove the meat mixture. Add just enough steak sauce to lightly coat meat mixture. Taste and re-season, if necessary.

    3. Turn heat to low. Add cheeses and cover until they are melted.

    Enjoy!

    Tips:

    1. Using thinly sliced fresh ribeye or other steaks will taste much better.

    2. Adjust different seasonings to your taste. Sometimes I'll use BBQ seasoning or Montreal Steak Seasonings.

    3. Try different types of cheeses. Keep in mind the taste of the cheeses and adjust your seasonings accordingly.

    4. Different types of mushrooms and onions will yield different flavors.

    5. Different colored peppers will add to the presentation.
