Ingredients:

4 Tbsp. unsalted butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
4 cups whole milk
1/2 tsp. kosher salt
1/4 tsp. white pepper
1/8 tsp. grated or ground nutmeg

How to Prepare:

Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour; cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually whisk milk into sauce. Bring mixture to a boil.

Cook until sauce in thickened and no longer starchy, stirring constantly to prevent scorching. Remove sauce from heat; stir in salt, pepper, and nutmeg.

Tips:

You can use black pepper if you do not have white but it will take away from the color and leave black specks. Black pepper also has a stronger flavor so use less, if using.

Freshly grated nutmeg works best.
