Handy Dandy Equipment Case
« on: May 08, 2007, 09:09:33 PM »
Jim and I bought a couple of metal cases for our equipment when they were down here this weekend.
He is going to fix his up all nice and neat and then I'm sure he will post a picture. I opened mine up and through the stuff in. Now we need to go somewhere to use them.

Now that I have my new camera, I can get started trying to fit everything in the case.  Once I get it layed out it's just a matter of pinching out the foam in the correct shape so the items fit down inside.  I hope I can fit everything in there.  This camera is quite a bit bigger, but I'm sure I can make it fit.

We'll work in yours if you want when I get mine done.

Ah, well  I guess i kind of put this project on the back burner.  It ended up like my ham shack.  During the summer around here, it's garden and mow grass, then mow grass and garden.  I hope to get back to something else real soon and now that I know you are waiting so patiently to see it, I'll move it right to the top of the list.  :critic:

Well I got the equipment case out today and layed out the equipment.  Not sure that's the way I want to put it in there yet.  Of course no room for the cameras but we have individual cases just for them.  I imagine you recognize most everything except the 2 items at the bottom of the picture.  Those are EMF detectors.  They use colored LEDs to indicate the presence of electromagnetic fields.

I'm not sure if I will do it exactly this way because the last time we were out we realized that the small infrared thermometer does not have a light to illuminate the reading, so we may end up getting another one like the gun shaped one.  So far we haven't had call to use the 2-way radios either.

It looks like I will still have to take another bag with all the spare batteries, tapes, flashlights, etc.

:Wow: :Wow: That is wicked Cool Jim Thanks
What is the gadget attached to the EVP? I don't think I have seen one of those?

Where exactly do you find all this stuff?  I would imagine you could store all sorts of stuff in there.. And take only what you would need for a particular trip.

I'm not sure what you are calling the EVP.  There are 2 EMF detectors.

You can find this equipment on the net as well as in some tool supply places.  The IR thermometer came from a place called Harbor Freight Tools.  There are a number of places on the internet that specializes in ghost hunting equipment.

It looked like a cord hooked up to your voice recorder..  :ScratchHead:
Could just be the way it is layed out.

Rita- it looks like a handle thingy on the little thing(don't ya love my technical terms :laughmao: ) that curls up near the recorder. I don't think they are attached, tho.

Tonya is correct.  It's a wrist strap on the small IR thermometer.  When I get the foam cut out you won't see that.

Jim, I noticed that you have 2 K-II meters.  I have heard some good things and some bad things about them.  Do you like to use then and how much trust to you put into them.  Also can you tell me where you got yours?  Thanks for any information?

Hi Teresa,

Actually we have 3 of those.  I don't really care for them but they were a good deal and from what I've read do work.  I don't like the fact that you have to hold your thumb down on it for so long or use it for short lengths of time.  If you move your thumb just a little you may get a false reading.  I'm not exactly sure where I got them.  I think I picked them up on ebay but can't think now where they came from.

I think my next purchase will be a Dr. Gauss meter.  Seems to be more reliable and you read a needle instead of lights.

Jim, Thanks for your response.  Are you willing to sell one of your K-II meters.  My hubby is am electricion and is going to put a toggle switch on mine, when I get one.  I am sure he would be glad to do the some for yours if you are interested.  So EBay is a good place to try and find then?  Let me know if you are interested in selling one.

I got my case at Wal-Mart in sporting good. I think it may be for pistols, but it works great for what we use it for.  It even has the foam that you can cut out.  It is plastic but seems to be sturdy.  I think I paid less than $15.00 for it and I have 2 digital cameras, camcorder, IR temp gun, digital voice recorder and still have lots more room. I would out a picture on here but can't figure out how to do it.  Just an idea I wanted to pass along.

Thanks,

I'll send you a PM about the K-II meter.

We would really like to see your case.  I haven't put my cameras in one.  I have soft cases for them and right now just lug them around that way.

Attaching a pic is easy.  First you will need to upload it to something like PhotoBucket or one of the other free photo sites.  Once that is done you put it here in a post by using the

tags.  The image is limited in size to 640X480.  There is a post in the Forum Guidelines area that explains this in more detail.

Here is a picture of our equipment case.  As you can see I don't have everything in there yet.  I hope to also get 2 walkie talkies, one more digital voice recorder, an EMF detector, a K-II meter, another flashlight, another IR temp gage, and the IR light for the camcorder.  The place that is empty is where the camera that I took the picture goes.  Since I put everything I could on it's side, I think I can get it all in there.  If not I will just get another case.  I don't want everything to be to crowed.  Right now I am keeping all the charger cords and such under the foam, but that is not working out to will.  It is to hard to get them out without having to unload the case.  So I am planning to put the cords for each camera, extra batteries, the battery charger (we have decided to go with mostly rechargeable batteries) Extra flash lights, note pad and everything else we may need in a backpack or someother type bag.  This system seems to work out great for us and you can get the case local and not a very bad price.  Just thought Everyone would like to see how we are planning to carry our stuff.  I will post another picture when I get everything and get it in the case. (or case's)  Now all I need is a place to go and use all this equipment.

Looks good to me!  It's almost essential that you have your equipment organized in some way so that you can account for it when you are ready to leave.  Having the foam cut-out is definitely the best way because it is real obvious when something is missing.

I like that case.  I bet it's light but still gives the equipment the protection it needs.  I may have to pick one of those up too and eliminate one of the additional bags that we carry.

Jason, I think the case in reply #6 came from Harbor Freight. If not, I am sure Jim will be along in a bit to correct me...

Can't really remember, but it seems these cases weren't very expensive. They were probably $20 or $30. I can't remember if the foam inside came with them or not...

Like I said, Jim will be along in a bit and let us know if I remembered or not... :wink5:

Sounds like the brewery will be a fun investigation... :grinnnn:
