I saw this listed in Shadowlands - haunted places in SC.  The story goes that there was supposed to be a lake there but the construction workers got scared off because of strange things?  There is also a private cemetery on the hill above it where all the people in it are supposed to have committed suicide.

Has anyone been there?

I have friends who live in Newberry.  The wife said that they have been to Molly's rock.  When the weather starts to improve, I guess in spring, they are going to take me there.  I am thinking of this as more of a first look, maybe take a few pictures, and see if there are any obvious vibes there, before considering this for further investigation.

My friends are not ghost hunters.  They think I just want to go hiking.   BigGrin

there's a cool website with pictures of the cemetary there.  I don't know if I can post the website address here though.  I put in Flag Lake, Newberry, SC and it came up as one of the choices.

Is this the website you were talking about, Sheri? Looks like it would be a very interesting place to visit and investigate... grinnnn

Sure hope nothing scares your friends, Shaman. They might decide that their hearts can't take "hiking" with you, in more ways than one... giggle

Is it that lake/cemetary that Sheri found? I would love to investigate that one after reading on that site... grinnnn

It is about 100 miles, give or take a few, Sheri. How far is it from you?

I was thinking that if Shaman found something worth investigating there in Newberry, we should make plans to do a formal investigation. BigGrin His friends may not want anything else to do with him if they get spooked... giggle

This definitely looks interesting.  It would be great if Shaman could get the details, especially the person to contact to get permission to visit the cemetary.  Lots of times when places are posted on Shadowlands there are so many folks that try to go there that it creates an issue with the authorities and getting permission becomes even more important.

My friends are from hardy stock.  They definitely have their own opinions about ghosts though.  I have come clean and told the wife why I want to go, and she said they are fine with it, as long as it is not at night.

I want to see this place first, before deciding if it warrants more investigation and effort.  I usually have a pretty good sense of activity, if there is any here.  If we locate the graveyard, we will not enter it when we go, but I am sure if there is anything going on in the vicinity, they are not necessarily bound to the grave sites, and I still think we should be able to get a sense of paranormal activity, if there is any.

However, I do know that in some cases, they may choose to only come out at night, which will be a very different matter.  We will see!

I will post when we finally do plan to go, in case anyone might want to tag along for the initial exploration as well.  Since I am not familiar with the area, I will have to go when my friends are free to take me, so I am not sure how much notice I will be able to give, but I will post it anyway.

If you take a look at the information on the Shadowlands website, the site that Dianna linked to is not the same cemetary that Shaman is talking about.  Dianna's link shows a school right across the road where the one Shaman is talking about is described as "being in the middle of nowhere".

I think it would be interesting to go to both places.  Interesting to note that on the Shadowlands site, they say that as of March 2008 that, what they think is the cemetary is posted with No Tresspassing signs.

Jim, I just went to Shadowlands and it reads like that the place I linked to is the right place. It doesn't matter that it shows a school across the street. The school itself can be in the middle of nowhere. wink5

I read the Flag Lake/ Molly's Rock Newberry entry...

The overhead view is not in the middle of nowhere.  This quote is from your link:

Quote
The graveyard is located in the 1400 block of Boundary Street directly across the street from the Boundary Street Elementry School.

^^^ Don't sound like the middle of nowhere either.  Where I come from we don't divide nowhere into blocks.

This is most likely the area that Shaman is talking about, and I could see this being a hiking trip.

I was talking to my friend about it again.  She said her husband was concerned about me wanting to go there, and he asked her if she had told me that someone was murdered at Molly's Rock as well.  I stopped her there and told her not to tell me more, because I thought that having too much knowledge might taint the experience for me.  I didn't want to go out there with any more information than I already had, but it appears that there could be a lot more unrest in the area, and probably more recent then the events I was already aware of.  Unfortunately, they have also asked me not to involve anyone else in the trip with them, so I will go with them, see the lay of the land, and report back - but not til spring sometime.
