Have you ever compared yourself to a bush, vine or tree?

As for myself, I have never given it a thought. If I had I probably would have said a half dead plum tree because I look and feel like a dried up old prune.

The following was found in an article taken from this months Woman’s World magazine.

What bush, vine or tree were you born under?

Dec. 24 - Jan 20
You’re a Birch!

Like the steady, durable Birch, you are hard working and reliable. Birches tend to work best with schedules. You always like to know what’s coming, but you never let obstacles stand in your way when surprises do come up – a reason Birches are so successful in sales and business.

Jan 21- Feb 17
You’re a Rowan!

Rowan trees can thrive in any environment, and so can you. Rowan people hat conformity and are very receptive to new people and ideas – a reason you probable love traveling and trying new things.

Feb 18 – Mar 17
You’re an Ash!

You are intuitive and creative – reasons Ash people are so skilled at music, art and writing. You’re sensitive and have a magical way of knowing just what people are thinking and sometimes even know what will happen before it does.

Mar 18 – Apr 14
You’re an Alder!

Alders are one of the fastest growing trees – a reason you’re so energetic and competitive.
You’re super efficient and happiest when multitasking. That’s why Alders prefer to work alone rather than as a team.

Apr 15 – May 12
You’re a Willow!

You are spiritual and fascinated by the mystical side of life, like astrology and ESP. You have an air of mystery about you, but once people get to know you they find you’re devoted to your friends and family. In fact, Willows are among the most maternal of the signs.

May13 – June 9
You’re a Hawthorn!

Hawthorns are hardy and resistant to frost that would make other trees wither. No wonder you’re so strong, steadfast and a great problem solver! You also have great communication skills, making Hawthorns successful in journalism and public speaking.

June 10 – July 7
You’re an Oak!

Like the majestic Oak tree you are dignified and gracious. You’re usually optimistic and always speak your mind – even if it not a popular opinion. Your integrity and upbeat attitude rarely let you down.

Jul 8 – Aug 4
You’re a Holly!

You’re imaginative and full of ideas, but you prefer to work behind the scenes rather than in the limelight. You can also be sensitive to what’s going on around you. Hollies benefit from a lot of alone time to recharge.

Aug 5 – Sept 1
You’re a Hazel!

Hazels are one of the first to bear leaves in the spring, and you, too, love to be the first in everything you do. You’re ambitious and charismatic, but you’re also a great listener, which is why Hazels excel as teachers and social workers.

Sept 2- Oct 27
You’re an Ivy!

You have great taste and probably keep up with trends, a reason you’re the one everyone goes to when picking out an outfit or decorating. You’re also fiercely loyal to those you love, and very protective of them.

Oct 28 – Nov 24
You’re a Reed!

Never count out a Reed – you have the ability to overcome, even overwhelming odds! Reeds are goal oriented, and when you want something, you go after it. Everyone wants you on their side, because they know you’ll never give up.

Nov 25 – Dec 22
You’re an Elder!

Just like the adaptable Elder, you have a knack for transforming yourself to any situation. You have a restless nature and a carefree spirit, which makes you think everything will turnout all right – and because Elders are so lucky, it usually does.

What about December 23?

Because this day doesn’t line up with the Druids 13 month calendar, it’s missing from their Zodiac, but later Celts associated this date with mistletoe and evergreen, meaning you’re highly resilient and adaptable.

Good article, Bonnie! Personally, I think I'd fit in more with the Harry Lauder Walking Stick, cuz I don't have a sense of direction & am never sure which way I should go!

According to the article though, I'm a Hazel... which is the color of my eyes, but other than that I always thought Hazel was a nut!

I'm a Holly according to this. They sure have me pegged on the above. I do tend to be bashful and quiet.

Not when there is a microphone in front of you.

The only reason you prefer to work behind the scenes is cause you don't want folks to see what you are doing until you spring it on them.

You and Dianna; and I don't know which is which.

This isn't about shrubs or trees, but I figured it might sorta fit into this thread alright. dunno A friend of ours, who is a member of the garden club I belong to, wrote this & shared it with us at yesterday's meeting.  I'm passing it on, cuz I think it's nice.

The longer I work in my garden, the more I am struck by the similarities between my plants and flowers, and the people I know.  I have always been amazed by the discovery of a beautiful flower flourishing in what appears to be impossible circumstances, such as an asphalt driveway.  I have known people like that too, who, despite being born into very distressing situations manage to rise above their circumstances to be come productive and gentle.

Some friends are like Poppies; brilliant in color, brief in duration, and very fragile. Others are like Roses; perfection to the eye, but thorny to the touch.  There are people like Gardenias, who are fussy and demanding, prospering only in ideal conditions, selfishly intolerant of situations that disturb their comfort.

Camellias are beautiful with many variations; promising much, but lacking any fragrance. Some people are like that, appearing to have so much to offer, but they lack substance.  Magnolias make your heart sing.  Your senses reel with the generosity of their size, beauty and exquisite fragrance.  I have "magnolia friends" who are generous to a fault, unselfish and always giving.

Some people I know are like Straw Flowers; vibrant with tough exteriors, strong and enduring.  Some of my dearest and sweetest friends are like Violets; small and quiet, but accomplishing much, whose subtle fragrance requires close association.

Last, but not least, is the wonderful Oleander. This plant is much maligned and misunderstood, because you mostly hear what is bad about it: that it's poisonous.  This plant is capable of performing in the worst of times (draught and intense heat), but remains generous by nature, producing some poet to write, "Oh, to sit on the veranda, just to smell the Oleander".  I know people who have been maligned for one bad thing in their lives, and their friends and families fail to see all the other fabulous things about them.

This is a delightful way to spend time in the garden.  It makes you very aware of the different needs and characteristics of your plants and flowers, then you have the added fun of matching them with people you know and maybe understanding them better.

Next time I'm out playing with my flowers, I'll see if I can find any of you in my gardens! wink5 (I told her that I noticed she didn't mention anything about weeds... so I'm not sure where I fit in!)

Very beautiful Patty!  I like that writing a lot.

As for me, I am a birch.  And while I do work very well within a schedule, I prefer to avoid them whenever possible, probably why I really do not accomplish as much as I could.

Well, Patty, it looks like we're a Hazel and the profile is pretty accurate and a little scary.   scaredy  Whis

I love being an elder. It sounds so dignified. The description is right on for most of my personality. As I age I do change a bit though.
