Messenger Bag Tutorial

Ok this is long but in case anyone wants to make one...
First I cut the pieces. I labeled them here rather than listing all of them.
With right sides together I sewed the strap.
I ironed the strap and the pocket pieces. For the pockets, I folded twice to hide the edges so they would not catch as things were put into and taken out of the pockets.

Sewed the strap on both sides to give it a nice edge.
Sewed down the top edges of both pockets using a zig zag stitch before I attached the pockets. The larger pocket to the body piece and the smaller pocket to the flap piece. I sewed two lines, 1 about a half in in and one on the edge.

Made a tube out of the liner.
Attach the bottom of the liner, trimming the corners to rounded edges.

Next, with right sides facing, I sewed the U shaped sides of the flap, after trimming the flap.
Now it is time to put it all together.
With the outer bag inside out, pin the strap to the sides with the strap on the inside.
Strap pinned looking at it from the outside.

Next pin the flap, turned right side out. Place flap pocket and bag pocket facing one another.
Pin the liner to the bag with the right side on the outside. When you look at the pinned bag, you will see the liner on the inside of the bag with sewed edges and the outer bag also with sewed edges. All rights sides are in the bag.
Sew the rim of the bag all the way around, leaving enough of an opening to turn the bag right side out.
Turn the bag through the opening.

Sew a border edging around the opening of the bag and along the flap.
The completed bag from the front.
Looking inside.
The back.

No. I did not put them in cuz I did not want them to rip from books being put in and out.
