Virus Hunting
« on: Apr 19, 2010, 07:57:02 AM »
Well I just got a long detailed e-mail from spyzooka about how to get rid of my virus.  So if you don't hear from me for several days you'll know the virus won and I'm computerless.  This is so tiresome.

Well soonest started soonest finished I guess.  I wish I had a computer guru close by.

Thanks, I'm back.  Wether the virus is or not I don't know.  We'll see.

Yep the virus is still among us.  I took everyone out of my address book.  Wether that will help with the e-mails or not we'll see.

It's an anti malware program. The last two times I got a bug on my computer, this is the program that got rid of it for me. AVG never saw the first one and spybot would lock up on it. This last one, AVG claimed it cleaned it, but when I rebooted, it was back. But Malwarebytes cleaned it.

Go here Malwarebytes and click on the button for the free version, download and install. Then run a full scan. This should hopefully clear it up.

it is a free site to rid you of nasty things, Tammy. It is a down-loadable program.

Well it found 8 things and said that it got them all.  But I'm still getting some strange things going on with the computer so I'm not sure.

I get little white boxes around the internet server connector icon when I try to connect to the internet.  It takes forever for the window to show up to connect to the internet.  The PC People home page isn't showing up when I get connected.

what shows up instead of PC People home page?

I does sound as though you still have issues. What other programs have you scanned your PC with?

I get a page that says there maybe an problem.  then it lists several options.  I ignore it and just hit the IE icon and pull up a page that way.

Spybot, Spyzooka, PC matic, Combofix and a couple of others that I can't remember at the moment.

You said in another thread that you were able to do things you couldn't before.  I am not familiar with PC People.  Is it its own browser? IE works without a problem?

You mention sever anti-spyware programs, but have you run your anti-virus program? And if everything else is working right now, have you tried just resetting your home page?  Otherwise, I'm not sure how to help beyond this without sitting in front of your PC.

since I was able to change my password to day and I'm not seeing the white blocks I'm thinking maybe I'm good.  I'm hoping so.  Thanks for heading me in the right direction.

Isn't it funny you spend money getting security software and renewing licenses and it's always the freebies that fix the problems.
