There was actually more than 4 different kinds of desserts because James' mom didn't know if anybody was bringing any so she went out and bought 2 pies today. We put them in the freezer since 4 others brought dessert.

I decided to heat meatloaf I made last month and stuffed taters I made last week. Keeping it simple.

We had peas (purple hull) out of the garden that Jim shelled the night before, rice, cucumbers (out of the garden) in Italian dressing, and fried cornbread.
Sure was good for a meatless meal...

I am eating more and more meatless meals. I make James and Tristen something and then I eat something else.

fried cornbread? Do fill me in, Dianna.
We had honey-mustard chicken and steamed broccoli. I was going to serve buttered wheat bread on the side but forgot.

I had to look up kohlrabi. Never heard of it. It's in the cabbage family? Does it taste like cabbage?

I think it tastes more like celery.
Wikipedia says:
The taste and texture of kohlrabi are similar to those of a broccoli stem or cabbage heart, but milder and sweeter, with a higher ratio of flesh to skin. The young stem in particular can be as crisp and juicy as an apple, although much less sweet. Except for the Gigante cultivar, spring-grown kohlrabi much over 5 cm in size tend to be woody, as do full-grown kohlrabi much over perhaps 10 cm in size; the Gigante cultivar can achieve great size while remaining of good eating quality

We had fish sticks and pasta. Made the kids pasta with some Parmesan and the balance of the pasta turned into a pasta/pea salad. Was good on this warm day.

This kohlrabi did not look like cabbage or celery. It was round....about the size of a large onion (maybe a little bigger). Once peeled and sliced, the inside had the texture similar to a similar to a potato or apple. I had never had it before. It was good!

I'd doing chicken and dumplings. I know it's to hot but I've got this big package of chicken and it has to be used so that's what I'm making lol. I'm so looking forward to it. For some reason I haven't made it in ages.

Yes, when I mentioned celery, that was what the taste reminded me of, celery hearts, sort of. I like kohlrabi

Sarah Loo, all you do is make up cornbread batter as usual and then drop it by spoonfuls into oil and then fry until brown. Very tasty, but very bad for you, too...
