What have I gotten myself into?

WWW
« on: Aug 07, 2006, 02:59:12 PM »

ETA:  I have added a few more things to this so now you can edit your profile to finish filling in your information before reaching 20 post. The modification I added does not keep a spammer from adding links to his/her signature, just prevents the addition in post.  As a result you will have to post 20 times before you will be able to complete the information in your profile.  I may remove this restriction in the future but as of now it has to stay in place.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Don't forget to press the PROFILE button at the top of the page and finish filling in your profile information. There you can enter your birthday (come on now we just want to wish you a happy birthday when it comes around); location, signature, pick an avatar or indicate you have one at some other hosting location. If you have a pic that you want to use for an avatar and don't know how to get it set-up feel free to PM myself or one of the staff for some help. Also be sure and set up you PM notifications as well as any email notifications that you are using on the board.

If you have questions with any of this. feel free to PM me or leave a reply to this topic.

We do hope you enjoy the forum.

Jim I have tried twice to put a dob in. I don't celebrate birthdays or even recognize them so was going to put in a made up date and it keeps going back to 0000  00 00

Make sure the date is believeable as the board does do a bit of checking. It should accept about anything in the past but definitely nothing in the future. Be sure and use the format of yyyy for year, mm for month, and dd for day. These all need to be numbers. Be sure and click the button at the bottom of the page that says "change profile". If you forget that, it doesn't save your changes. Let me know if this doesn't work and we will figure out something else.

I understand completely, Jimmy.  Dianna was putting in different dates one night just seeing what the board would do and she found out that if you put in the year, it tells you age.   However if you leave the year at 0000 and fill in the month and day, your birthday shows up on the calendar but it doesn't tell your age.  Shocked

Don't mind helping at all.  Just holler' if you need anything else.

As a result of the recent influx of spammers, we have had to add an additional level of security.  Effective immediately, new members in the "Noobie" membergroup will not be able to edit the profile until they have posted at least 20 times.  If you would like to add information to your profile, select or link to an avatar, please PM myself or one of the staff.  Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

After dealing with the spammers for a few months now, it appears that their only interest is to post links so I have added a modification that will disallow that for the new members in the "Noobie" membergroup.  So for those new members that want to edit their profile now. before reaching 20 post, you may do so.  You will not be able to add a signature though until you have posted 20 times.  I went through and added the permission to all the other groups.  If for some reason you receive an error message when you go to post a link and you are not in the "Noobie" group, please let me or one of the staff know.

I am getting an error message which reads something to the effect of "You are not allowed to post links".  Sorry for not posting over here.  I was reading about the spammers in another thread and then the girls started throwing toys at each other...   SlapSelf

That's quite alright.  I tweaked one of the settings.  Try to post a link now and see what happens.

I tried posting a picture from my Photobucket and had the same issue. I am not allowed to post links. Am I tweakable too? I promise not to post advertisements or porn or anything.

Should be fixed now.  I just tested it with the test account and it works.  Let me know if you have any further problems.

Tina, can you describe how you are trying to post it.  I just tested with my test account that has the exact same permissions as you and had no problem posting a pic from PhotoBucket.

Sheri, I haven't posted anything from PictureTail but will go and test that now.

I go to the link options of the pic that I want to post and use the full size for boards. It won't allow  them here. I will try the url clickable here to see.

Well it worked now. And here but won't allow it in the spirit lounge still. It says:
Sorry, you are not allowed to post links. (in red)

Good information Tina.  The fact that it worked here and not in the Spirit Lounge gave me the information I needed.  Remember there are some boards that only members can see after posting at least 20 times?  Spirit Lounge is one of them.  Anyway those are controlled by local permissions instead of the membergroup permission.  I had to set the add link permission there as well.  It should all be fixed now.  Thanks for helping me work out the bugs.  Setting the permissions is one of the most complex systems and sometimes it's hard to comprehend the complexity.

Sheri, you should be good to go as well.
