What's for Dinner #27
«

Tina, the lady at our CSA farm said that kohlrabi was a mix between a potato and an apple. I had never had kohlrabi before but I got what she was saying when we ate it. It sure was good! I am loving the CSA. We are learning a lot and eating better. I would have never picked up kohlrabi at a store and bought because I would have had no idea what to do with it or have the desire to try it. With this, I either try it or waste it so we try it. Last week, they gave us a recipe for a salad dressing. It was easy to make and it tasted fantastic! James said he never thought he would go back for seconds of salad. He had thirds. It was yummy!

I will definitely share the recipe. It will have to be tonight because I am at work and don't have it with me.
Sarah, there must be some in your area? Since this is my first year and I didn't know what to expect, a friend and I went in on it together. I am glad we did. We would be overwhelmed with food otherwise. They say it is enough for a family of 4. I say it is enough for a little more than that. We are a family of 3 but I can't count Tristen because he just doesn't eat enough. My friend is also glad we split it.

It's probably enough that you can can it to hold you over the winter?
How do I find out if there are these farms in my area?

Tammy, click this link.
http://www.localharvest.org/csa/
Under the map on the upper right, there is a place where you can put in your zip code and it will bring up the farms in your area. I think all of them are certified organic. I know that ours is.

Right now we are getting mostly greens so no canning but maybe with some of the veggies later people will do that. I'm not sure. It is a learning experience for me since it is my first year. Luckily for me, this farm is less than a mile from my house. Nice people too. They have chickens and sell fresh eggs too. I plan to start buying them from them. They are also talking about raising a couple cows for people interested in meat down the road.

I rarely have anything very organized to post about. I began with watermelon tonight. Followed by a plain hamburger patty with a little sea salt. And one of my stuffed taters with cheese and broccoli and bacon. As close to a real dinner as I get most of the time. If I feel like snacking later there is plenty of melon left.

I started with watermelon too. Probably a piece of pizza left over from lunch in a bit. Maybe some more watermelon. I think what doesn't get eaten tonight will be tossed. Most of it is mush

Tonight I made the stuffing for stuffed bell peppers but we just ate the stuffing part with the bell peppers added in and it was really good.
