Quick - Name a Steak DISH!!
«

Alrighty, I've got all this steak in the freezer. I've got KC Strip steak, mignon, rib eye, sirloin, and some others. We're not big steak eaters. Actually, I think we don't grill the steak right but it is hard 'cause Adam wants his with just a smidge of pink and I like mine to med rare (closer to rare though). What would be a good use of this meat?

How do your kids like steak?
I do like mine rare. Pass it over a warm light bulb a couple of times and it is good for me. It is good grilled but I also like it under a broiler. I just use a dry rub of garlic powder, salt and pepper for most tender cuts.

The kids like their steak ground up and made into hamburgers, Tina.
They will eat a few bites of steak but I think it's just too meaty for them.
I grill our steaks with some garlic salt and pepper on either side.

could you use some of it for stir fry?
This is a site that gives different ways to fix your steaks.

I didn't know that KC strip is the same as NY strip.

Stir fry is a great idea, thanks Sheri!!
I've never heard of a NY strip but then again I'm four hours from KC...

A client of someone in the farm department at Adam's bank was killing his cows and we got a "half of a half." Which I call a quarter - but no, no - it's a half of a half. That's what the butcher calls it. That's what the farm dept. guy called it.

You could cook up some of it when you have friends over. Johnny wants to come eat.

hahahahahaha - oh that was funny, Sheri.
Thanks, I needed something to lighten the mood. We have not EVER had friends over other than for one of the girls' birthday parties. Other than that, we only see them if they want something. You and Johnny are more than welcome to come eat steaks any time. I can even copy your salad, if Johnny will make the trip!

Actually, with a little self control, I'm sure you could have.

Ummm, SHeri, that isn't how it works. You have to WEAR them, not just purchase their stock...

Now, if you are done hijacking my topic, Sheri, I'd like to ask if anyone knows what the heck hoisin sauce is and what it tastes like??

I like the hijacking... makes me smile.
Hoisin sauce is good, use sparingly. Take a taste of it and you will get the idea. I use it when I make Pork Buns.
For the steak you can also use it to make beef stroganoff. Beef and veggies in the crock pot, cook it all day and it will be tender. Ummmm beef and barley soup. Kabobs. Steak fajitas. Cube the steak and cook it and mix it with friend potatoes. Teriyaki steak, think sliced and flash fried with teriyaki sauce. If you have a dehydrator you can make beef jerky as well.
Can you tell we are big steak and beef eaters here?

mingon au pav, I'm going to bet that I didn't spell that right. What it is, is pepper crusted filet mingon medalions. It's great.
Rib Eye is fantastic pan fried.
The more you cook a steak the less flavor it has but to each his own of course.

Asian crispy beef...awesome, and worth the work. Found on recipezaar.
Pan sear (I use cast iron pan) then cut into strips for sandwiches and salads.

I didn't see it online, Sarah, do you happen to have a link?
My cast irons have gone AWOL since moving. I don't have any idea where they are at...

My bad...gave you the wrong name. It is crispy ginger beef.

I'd die without my cast iron!!! I haven't cooked in another skillet in, uh...probably years.

I have a hard time keeping it properly seasoned - it seems to get really grungy on the edges where I don't cook a lot (mine is primarily used for making tortillas). Although I saw on America's Test kitchen that they boiled a cup of shortening (cooled it) and then scrubbed the pot with a half cup of salt. They may have used a lemon or something to scrub the pot with... I have 2 adopted cast iron that came with El Crap-O, I may have to try it on them...
