tunisian crochet
« on: Aug 13, 2010, 10:36:43 PM »
i'm trying it for the first time.  the basic stitch is also called afghan stitch, but there are others.  here is what it looks like

front

back.  you can see how it is trying to roll in the back picture.

has anyone else done this?

I tried it but did not care too much for it.

I've done it.  It is great if you want a grid to cross stitch on.

I've done it. Made a scarf with baby weight yarn. The looser you make the stitch the less it rolls. The rolling is unfortunately the nature of the beast. The thicker yarns, like worsted weight need a bigger hook. Theres also a tunisian stitch that looks like regular stockinette. I forget off the top of my head exactly how its done. Tunisian/afghan stitch is also called shepherds knitting.
If I can get to the library today I'll get my pics off photobucket and show you. Hmmm, there might be pics in our yarn thread here.......... zip.......
Jenn you should join Tina and I over at Crochetville. (aka c'ville)

thank you wrennie for showing me!  that is beautiful!  i am enjoying this but it is for me, so will putter at it.  and i am doing it loose.  the roll isn't really bothering me.  i figured i can manage it.  but, tammy did give me an idea bout the embroidery on it.

another something i'll have to look at

Places like Mary Maxim used to sell afghan kits where you do tunisian in a solid colr & then cross stitch a pattern on it. Gotta get the rows even for that or else the cross stitch count will be off & make for a crooked Pattern.

Tina knows how to crochet very well. But it is something my hands do not do well any more. Although I am itching to prove me wrong.

Nice. I am one of the few on here that are NOT crafty. But I sure do enjoy looking at other's work. Many talented members here.
