I'm adding the amaryllis to the wintersow list since I'll plant the bulbs in pots come January 31st.  Then I'll transplant come late spring once the soil has warmed up.

They are definitely the color I love in a garden.

I just received jalapeno and sweet peppers and I'll plant those in January also but those will be kept inside in a sunny window.

I just received Spinach and Phlox, red drummond.  I'll plant both of those this fall.  The spinach in the ground and the phlox in cups.

Perstemon 'iron maiden' is being added to the wintersow pile.  And the time is sneaking up on me isn't it.  I can't believe it is almost November.

Of course I'm running low on potting soil.  I hope that the hardware store has at least one bag left or I'm not going to make it through the winter.

I got a bag of potting soil at walmart.  And I planted one milk jug greenhouse full of the red orgami columbines and one full of the blush pink double bloom columbine.  The red ones will go in the foundation bed in the front to replace the panzies.  The blush pink ones are going under the deck.  There is a volunteer under there all ready and I've never seen one that big or healthy anywhere else so I'm going to add to that area with the same thing.  It should look really good in a couple of years.

Ok today I planted a small group of rose campions.   They are suppose to like a chill.  The only question is do they need light or dark to germinate.  I couldn't find the answer so I did half and half.

I went researching and as they are mostly a sunshine plant that self sow, I would say light, not darkness.
Propagation: Sow seeds in place in autumn or a few weeks before the last expected frost in spring. The seeds need to be chilled before they germinate. Just press the seeds into the soil; do not bury them

It could be done either way, Dodge. They usually need chilling before they will grow. So the seed instructions say fall planting or early spring, before the last frosts.
And what I was reading was that they don't like transplanting very well. So starting in trays and constantly transplanting to larger containers is not a good idea. I know that I would direct sow out. I have tried to grow these and they have not done well. It is way too hot and dry here.

Well I'm thinking of planting the Japanese Anenome today.  I'll let you know if I get it done.  Good luck with your rose campion.

I did get them planted.  It sounds like the Japanese Anenome are going to be a problem to germinate.  They need light and 60 degree temps for the next 2 weeks and then 3 months of dark moist temps in the 30 and 40 and then two more weeks of 60 degree temps before they sprout.  So I'll be watching them for quite a while.  For now they are in the livingroom where I can keep an eye on them.  It's ranging between 62 and 68 in there currently.

Well today I decided to plant a small sampling of the Peony Poppies in a container.  They do not transplant well so I only did a few for the purposes of watching them closely and if they are successful there I'll have those for easy harvest.  It's a plan anyway.  If we get a warm spell and they sprout I can always try and bring them indoors.  Although i understand they don't do well inside.  I seem to be branching out into the more difficult flowers this year.
