Pumpkin

FYI for those that do holiday baking. I am making pumpkin chocolate chip cookies for a hayride that we are going to this weekend. I went to buy canned pumpkin at the store yesterday. They didn't have much and they only had a more expensive organic kind (I will have to look at the name on it). There is a sign saying that they don't know when they will receive more because there is a pumpkin shortage. I bought a few extra cans. The manager happened to be bagging my groceries at the checkout and he said there are strict limitations on how much they can purchase at a time and even then they are receiving it sporadically.

I wonder why? Areas have been hit with powdery mildew and things but I see no widespread news about pumpkin problems.

They are saying that it is the pumpkin crop here in the midwest that did not have a good outcome this year. Too much rain and too much heat.

Oh boy... thanks for that heads up. Will have to add a bunch to my cart, if I can find it, my next shopping trip cuz I use a lot of it over the winter and for the holidays.

I went looking and it looks like our local pumpkins did alright. I have a couple of cans if needed.

I noticed that we only have the organic kind here and last year there was a shortage. But havent heard anything about it this year i heard that there might be a shortage on regular pumpkins but they are good with the canning pumpkins because of the 2008 season
