baby blanket finished on the trip:

baby blanket about 1/2 done, give or take a row or two

the first is a granny square and the second uses a "catherine's wheel" in a "bavarian crochet" pattern.

Both look really good. I'd wrap my baby in them but he's too big to wrap now. Good job.

tammy, that variation is what is called "bavarian crochet".  i went on a hunt for that one time when i saw the book advertized online, and could not find instructions to the technique outside the book.  i hunted online for the instructions and drive myself crazy. finally gave up on it.  then i was my local joann's and they had the bavarian book for 40% off.  so i got a $12 book for about 7.  without shipping and handling charges.  it is fairly easy and very nice to work with.  works up quick.

You got a deal, good for you.  I look forward to seeing the other things you do with it.  I'll keep my eye out for a copy on paperbackswap.com  Do you have the ISBN?

i'll get it for you.  i have already filed the book.  the only thing in it was the technique, how to start, and some patterns.  but all were variations on either a square or rectangle version.

yeah books don't have as much in them as they did in my mothers day.  It's like the recipe books.  Now your lucky if you get 25 recipes in a book and yet the ones my mom had had 250 recipes in each booklet and about 12 booklets are in each book.

ariel's blanket is complete:

the chair it is on, is one of those "half sofa" things that are slightly smaller than a loveseat, but bigger than a real chair.

i've done 3 scarves, just have to post the pictures.  one was a commission, one was a gift, and one will be for ellie to sell when/where she can.  she really liked it, and it was going to be a gift for her, but she had lots to say about the color when i was beginning it (she didn't know it was for her) so she didn't get it.  now, she really, really likes it, but too bad.  i did find out tonight that there is a definite difference in the color of the 2 skeins of variegated yarn that i used for her scarf, even though it was supposed to be dye lot free.  so i will go tomorrow and get another skein of it and see if it matches either of the others.  hopefully it does.  that is assuming they have more.  i'll post pictures tomorrow.

the scarf I made Ellie for Christmas

The scarf I made for our friend Van

The scarf that was going to be Ellie's until she went on and on about wanting black and white

two views of the pillow I made Matthew a couple of years ago, I just found the right sized pillow to stuff it with so I could finish it.  The rows go one way on one side and the other way on the other.

I have a hairpin lace scarf in progress right now, and some other odds and ends.

Awesome! I kind of like Van's scarf with the shawl collar effect. I think I'd like pockets on mine please. (Teasing! I really do not have much need for scarves here)

i thought about pockets too.  but with mine, i used to tie the ends together (folded long way) and lace my fingers through, so it covered my hands but i can still use them.

that will make a nice shawl.  I tried to be in style today and wore my ruffled scarf to church and thought I'd choke to death before I got it off.  I just can't wear stuff around my neck.  I think I must have been hung in my past life.

thanks sheri.  when ellie wears scarves, she wraps them super loose.  i don't even wrap mine most of the time.  just hang them off the back of my neck so the ends are hanging down in front.  i figured if the fashion majors at scad could do that, i could too.

i was going to post the last scarf i made but i can't get photobucket to work right today.  i'll try again tomorrow.

Oh that's not so wide.  The one I wore is ruffled so it's a little much.  Come to think of it I do have a thinner one that Ginger gave me.  I'll try it next.  Thanks.
