Book Review Corner Vol. 5
« on: Jun 29, 2011, 07:21:04 PM »
Well I just finished Elizabeth Lowell's, "Death Echo."  You know she writes great romances but her detective novels aren't all that inspired and this Twist on a man's adventure is awful.  I've read Clive Cussler and several other authors that right in this gendre and trying to put a female twist on it just didn't work in my opinion.  But then maybe that's just me.

I finished IN TOO DEEP an arcane novel by Jayne Anne Krentz and INTRIGUE a vladimir novel by Mercedes Lackey both of which were great but then I'm a fan of both writers so I'm probably alittle bias.

Why do I always run out of library books when the library is closed?  Is Murphy hidding around here somewhere?

We are discussing Little Fuzzy on ABE under Classic SF Book Club.  I think that's what the topic is called.  I think I need reinforcements lol.  I always feel so stupid when I go to that website.  Is it just the difference between Brits and Americans?

Your not going to believe this.  I found a romance novel without a sex scene in it.  Published by Love Inspired Books it's called "The Irresistible Earl," a historical romance like I used to read in the 70's and 80's but that then fell out of fashion.  I think they had done every possible scenario to death by then.  But I still enjoy them when I can find them.

That's cool Tammy.  I don't care for gratuitous sex or violence in books or movies.

me neither.  Evidently they publish an entire line that our local Wally World sells.  I'm going to set aside 4.34 every month and keep up with them.  Something good at walmart - who would have figured?

Have you read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks?  Great book.

Don't bother to read the Uncoupling.  It got good reviews but may be one of the worst books I've ever written.

Right now I'm reading Little Bee.

I haven't read any of those books.  I'll have to look into the immortal life.  What's it about?

I'm currently reading Pride and Prejudice and believe it or not I'm getting through it and it isn't driving me crazy.  Most classics give me heartburn to say the least.  But this one is good.  I feel like I've really made a break through with this book.

Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite books, Tammy. I have read this one and Sense and Sensibility and Emma dozens of times each.

I've ordered Sense and Sensibility we'll see how it goes.

I've also went overboard at the library site and now have 10 books on order and another 12 marked to order when I finish those 10.  Did I mention the three I already have at home only 1 of which I'm only half way through with yet?

This is what happens when I update my TBR list.

I just finished The Angel and the Jabberwocky Murders by Mignon F. Ballard and it was great.  The critics said, "Ballard writes with great warmth and sassy humor."  For once I agree whole heartedly.  I know I just about fell over with shock.  I plan to get the rest in the Augusta Goodnight series and enjoy them to the hilt.  Now just 9 to go lol.

I'm sorry to hear that a couple of them aren't as good as the rest but I hope to enjoy them as much as I can.  I've started, "The Fortress of Frost and Fire."  It should be a quick read.  Mercedes Lackey does write page turners.

Well the Bard's Tale is evidently one of those games sort of like Dungeons and Dragons.  And the books are based on that.  after I finish what I ordered on that I won't order any more.  Travel adventures are all clones basically.  I was thinking it was a spin off of the Bard series which is about singers.  Wrong again lol.

Currently I am reading the second book in the Fuzzy series and I'm loving it.  I'll be through with it quickly.

I finished the second Fuzzy book and loved it as expected.  Then I read the third book in the series and it was work.  I hate it when an author tries to write a story from more than one perspective and that's what happened in book three.  I felt like I was walking through knee deep mud.  So now that series is over unless I want to read what other writters have written about Fuzzies.  And I'm just not sure at this point.

I'm currently reading one of Elizabeth Peters earlier works not an Amelia Peabody novel.
