I didn't grow up in the south so even though I enjoyed the book I don't think I could truly connect with it.  Of course I have heard read books and heard stories but I didn't live in that culture and neither did my family.  You will have to let me know what you think.

Jessica, I wanna read The Help. I saw the movie and it was good, but I have always enjoyed the books much more... :grinnnn:

Heaven Is For Real is a very thought-provoking book. I really enjoyed that one, too... :good2:

I just saw on FB that The Help is playing in the movie theater in my little town this weekend.  Definitely going!  It is a one screen theater and is $5 admission.

what is sarah's key about?

and has anyone read "the help" that the movie is based on?  i think i want to read that.

Sarah's key is a part fiction part true story of what happened to children in France during the Holocaust.

I read the Help.  It's good and I've heard that the movie is great.

If you like true historical stories In the Garden of Beasts is great.

I'm in bed right now - trying to recover from being carsick for the past hour.  I downloaded The Help off my public library's website and am listening to it now.  I'm a few hours in (it's like 10 cotton picking hours long) and it's really good.

I'm thinking I may actually be coming down with something.  I sure don't feel good.  I'm really enjoying this book, Jen, I think you'd like it too.

I remembered to put my name on the list for the help.

And, Tammy, I've been trying to remember to tell you about a new to me author. Lynn bullock. The book I read was "less than frank". I t is a mystery and I think you will like it. Not dark at all, hot heavy. But not fluff either. I'm going to check other branches for more of her.

I'm reading Blood Memory by Greg Iles.  Dianna read it first as she always does and said it was good.  She was right!  Reading during lunch, I have found recently that I sometimes read right on past 1:00PM.

I once took a day off from work after reading all night so I could finish an Anne McCaffrey book.  I understand completely Jim.

Finished Blood Memory and on to a Tami Hoag book called, "Deeper Than The Dead".  Dianna says I won't be able to put this one down at lunch either.

Finished Elizabeth the Great by Elizabeth Jenkins.  It was really good.  The book is falling apart so I'll have to save up for book repair supplies since it's part of my collection.

I'm in the first fourth of The New Decorating with Pictures by Stephanie Hoppen and I'm very disappointed.  If she is writting about how to decorate with pictures I'm not understanding what she is saying.

I'm also reading The Messenger.  It's a modern translation of the New Testament.

Finished off the new Krentz novel, Canyons of Night I think she wrote it under the Jayne Castle non de plume.  It was good like all her novels are.  I prefer for who knows what reason her books written under the name Amanda Quick.

has anyone read the shack?  our speaker tonight used that book as a jumping off point for her speech.  i was guarded because, as she said, the book deals with the holy trinity, and we are a non-religious club (have several jewish members) but she did a good job.  she actually spent most of her time drawing a parallel to our club helping people who find themselves in "a circumstance" rather like the person in the book.  it was interesting.  and very nice to hear someone outside our club sing our praises.  she reminded me of a project we undertook a few years ago, where we provided white undershirts for students at a high school where they were required and a lot of the kids did not have them.  it was a new rule and the kids and parents had not had time to get them together. they didn't believe the rule would be enforced.  it worked out nicely.

anyway, i was just wondering if anyone else had read that book.  i did and it was a good book.  well written but a hard read because of part of the subject matter.
