So simple a child could do it...
« on: Feb 26, 2012, 02:24:42 PM »
since I went out and got the pretty coffee mugs I also bought the hooks to hang them on.  Now for the part a child could do.  I can't get the hooks to penetrate the wood on the bottom of the shelf.  I hate hooks I can never get them to go in.  What is the trick please?  I'm hoping there is a trick otherwise I'm going to qualify as the weakest woman in the world.

Try boring a lead hole with a small drill bit, works everytime.

and if you don't have a drill bit, drive a finishing nail in a little bit, then wiggle it out with your fingers. that makes a decent lead hole also.

Both of those work. Then use something like a screwdriver wedged into the hook to finish twisting it in. That is the place where my hands give out in strength. Those last few twists are a killer.

And they did.  The mugs are up and pretty evenly spaced.  Now I just need a curtain for behind them to hide the kitchen.

I have a breakfastbar, open concept floor plan.  So you can see from the livingroom straight through to the kitchen because there is no wall underneath the cabinets.  Which are the display types of cabinets with glass in the doors on both sides.  Not very useful although if you like an open floor concept this would be good.

So I have open space, short cabinets, then more open space, and then the breakfastbar.  Does that make since?  I can visualize it but I'm not all that good at describing it.

Thank you Dianna for the link and the pictures.  And thank you for the complement Jenn.  hehe the breakfast bar has never been that bare since the moment I moved in.  Now the cups are hanging below the cabinets.  The aquarium and all it's stuff is on there and the flower arrangement I'm using to try and hide the dirty dishes and all kinds of other stuff.  I should take a picture but I'm embarrassed.
