Decorating the Home Office, Pitfalls thereof

(1/3) > >>

duh:
Have I told you the saga of the home office?  Well my smallest bedroom is my home office.  When I bought my chosin ancient world map done in gold and black that solified the color scheme in the room.

I then decided that the old military surplus world war two executive desk needed to be upgraded.  I bought hi-gloss black paint for the desk, gold paint for the handles, two knobs for the missing ones on the pull out tables on each side. and those moving disks because the desk weighs a ton at least.

I started to pull out the drawers thinking I would paint them first but the weather turned bad so I put the stuff back in the drawers and decided to wait on that.  Then I thought I would prep the handles for painting.  Sanding them down is like talking to a wall.  The imperfections just don't seem to go away.

Then I thought I would install the knobs.  5 minute job right?  Nope major problem.  First off I'm not installing them in a draw.  It's a solid piece of wood so the bolt that came with the knob won't work.  So I got dowl screws.  Then the dowl screws wouldn't go in the knobs because they were the wrong thread size.  Mr. Roundtree was kind enough to rethread them.

Then they were to long on each end but I couldn't get them back out of the wood because the knob would unscrew rather than the wood screw shank unscrewing.  So I needed something to get the screw out of the wood.  After talking to my friends who are good at these kinds of things I found out I needed a vise-grip.  So I bought one.  Leaving the store and driving down the road I realized I didn't know how to work them.

Fortunately the next stop I was making was a meeting where I asked one of the guys to show me how to work them.  I came home and wa-la the screw is out of the hole and when I go back into town it will get shortened.

Hopefully after that I'll have the first part of the refurbishing of the desk done.

Don't ask what I'll do to the computer table after that.  The idea of even painting it is just scary.

bayou girl:
But you are learning new things and you are on your way to getting it done.

duh:
Well I got back from town with my fixed screws.  Hopefully this will fix the problem.  I'd like to have one step done on this project even if it is a very small one.

duh:
Your not going to believe this I don't believe this.  I got back I got the one knob in.  Now I can't find the second knob.  Someone shoot me please?

bayou girl:
tammy, that is so something i would do.
