News - Site migration planned
« on: Mar 12, 2012, 11:10:03 AM »
Our current host, "MonteCarloHosting" has recently been sold to "CyberLynk".  Because of this the site will be migrated to a new data center.  This is currently planned for tomorrow evening.  No specific time as of yet, but we will most likely experience minimum downtime.

The outage this morning was not related to this planned migration.  In fact it is part of the reason that we are being moved to a new data center.  This is a quote from the email I received after the site was back up.

We apologize for this issue.  Currently everything should be resolved.  Unfortunately it was related to the data center that currently hosts the server you are on.  We are going ahead with the migration of your website as planned to our data center.  This allows us to provide better service and support because we control all aspects of the infrastructure.

Please let me know if you have any questions and we'll update you once your account has been migrated.

I'm looking forward to this move and think this will resolve some of the issues we have been having over the last year.

I sure hope it fixes all the downtime we have from the server not cooperating. I get so frustrated when I can't check the forum to make sure that Tina and Sheri are behaving... :giggle:

Looks like the site migration went without a problem.  Got an email this morning saying it was complete and passed all the test.

100% uptime is like saying I will never get sick again, the car will never break, the kid will never cry.  I'll settle for 99% uptime.

Most likely be less frequent. But, I'm with Jim on the 99% uptime.

Seems a few folks are having issues getting to the site.  It is most likely related to the DNS and our host has tweaked those in the hopes that will take care of the issue.  It takes approximately 24 hours for DNS changes to propagate across the net so it may be a bit longer before everyone can get here.

Some things you can do to clear things up.

Open a CMD window and clear your dnscache.  You do that by typing "ipconfig /flushdns" at the command prompt.

Also consider clearing your browser cache and cookies.

If you are in contact with a member that can't get here, suggest these things to them.  Hopefully things will be back to normal soon.

I just got back on after not getting on all day (except for my phone a couple times, but not always). I just did the dns flush thing, hopefully that's the last of the problems.

if you h ave xp, just click start and type cmd in the "run" box and hit enter. if you have windows 7, just click start and type cmd in the "search programs and files box" and hit enter. the cmd window should open up then.

Thank you, Barb. Sincerely.
And then I have to remember all of this when the site won't come up. I do write notes to myself. I have all these little stickies and things waiting for me to find the appropriate one at the appropriate time.

The page would also not come up on my netbook. I'm thinking it was not something I needed to clear up on my end.

It's definitely something to do with the DNS.  I was able to get on from work just fine but not from home.  When we first got back tonight, I still couldn't get in. Tried again and here I am.  Before we left I was able to get here by using a proxy which was strange.  Anyway, hopefully by this time tomorrow all the issues will be resolved.

I'm about ready to pull someone's hair out for all this downtime. And it won't be mine... :wink5:

Yep, looks like the DNS tweak was what was needed.  In fact it seems a bit quicker in response time to me.  According to the information I have, we are on a shared server with a total of 10 sites.  With our old host we shared the resources with 140 sites.  I'm not sure how many we will have when it's all done but I'll get to see the prices the 1st of April because we are due for renewal then.
