Webcakes
« on: Jul 22, 2013, 12:58:09 AM »
Has anyone had webcake on their computer? I did and it about drove me crazy. I googled it and most sites wanted to sell me a program to remove it. I finally found one that gave me the info I needed, and it was so simple I could have kicked myself. At least I hope it is fixed. It seems to be working just fine at present.

This is the info I found on it:
WebCake constantly pops up ads banners at the bottom or side of the webpage when you are browsing online? Or you are annoyed by excessive pop up ads?
WebCake is an adware, owned by WebCake LLC, that serves as an ads supporting platform in form of browser add-ons. Strictly speaking, it is not actually a virus but it is annoying and has a low rating among users.
Often, WebCake is distributed via bundle software like Goforfiles. Once settled, it will pop up advertisements, sponsored links, coupons in form of box and underlined keyword link ads, especially when you are visiting shopping sites like Amazon, Ebay, Walmart, etc.

Removing it was as simple as going to the control panel and uninstalling it. Dummy Me.
This is me ->?

I am glad you got it fixed, Bonnie. I hate those types of things.

Browser add-ons should never be allowed to install unless you say yes.  Make sure you browser security is set that way.  If it can't be, then it's time to find a new browser.

Bonnie glad it was an easy fix.  Somehow I allowed something called Yieldmanager into my life that added pop ups and it was a mess getting it off.
