The purple one is pretty, but I still like that blue one the best. It's just a beautiful color. You do good work.
Dear Lord, On this day, please wrap your arm around my shoulder and keep your hand over my mouth.  Amen

thank you barb.  the blue is scott's favorite too.  both of the blue ones were easier to do than the pinky-purply one.

part 2 of my current project... partially done.  i've gotten more done on it since this was taken.  close to halfway.

when it is finished, part 2 will circle part 1, something like this

What will be the size of the completed doily?  What room is it in?  What's it going to be put on?  Inquiring minds what to know.

I've done closed yarn doilies for the tops of chairs but most doilies are white or off white (dust catchers).  I'm interested in knowing how you will use yours.

the finished doily will be a square, about 10" x 10".  give or take.  it is going on top of a victrola.  the center color of the doily is an approximation of the walls of the room that the victrola is in.  i could have made a dust catcher, but to be honest, i wanted something close to "art deco" to match the eclectic look of the room the victrola is in.  the house itself is a 1908 craftsman cottage.

How cool is that?  That's one vivid color for walls, but if they fit anywhere they fit in a craftsman cottage.

I have a love hate relationship with the craftsmans.  I've never been able to get all my stuff in one, but the built-ins, the woodwork, the plasterwork...it all makes me happy.  I guess I need a ranch layout and a craftsman interior.  I know it's supposedly wrong to mix styles but I mean really I think that would be the perfect house.

Will you square it using a different color or will the black and white end up being square when you are through?

I think it will be squared up with a different color. The black and white is supposed to approximate  the look of an old 'record'. And I think it is a lovely idea.

my current and recently finished projects...

dish cloth for my best friend

doily finished, it just didn't look right with any kind of edging, so it will have none.

and both sides - front and back of the one of the current works in progress...
front

the bead in the middle is a letter bead being held in place by a stitch marker so i know what size hook i am using, in case the hook and project get separated.

back

the other work in progress is a dish towel to match the dish cloth.

well, the dish towel turned into another dish cloth instead. i thought i had 2 rolls of that yarn but i don't.  so there it is.  but i'm happy over all with how it turned out anyway.  it is shaped a little different, but follows the same overall pattern.  now it is on to christmas ornaments, and to work on the blanket project i've been puttering with... as well as needing to finish up a few clowns....

What christmas ornaments are you doing?  I've always wanted to be able to do christmas ornaments but I could never get them to stiffen.  I've tried the flour and water, glue, and even commercial stiffeners no luck.  I've tried the stars and the angels.

i mix elmers school glue 50/50 (give or take) with water, soak them, then pin them to dry.  it works well.  i usually do snow flakes, crosses, stars, and angels.  this year, no clue, haven't gotten them started.

I've never soaked them in the glue solution.  Maybe that would work.  Do you use the #3 cotton with metalic thread or what?  What size are your ornaments?  Which type are the easiest?

tammy, i use a hodgepodge of thread... some #3,5,10 and even a few 20.  most are between 2"-6" and some have the metallic thread in it.  it really is a matter of getting them soaked with the glue solution, and then pinned/blocked to let them dry.  and you have to let them dry all the way.  they will remain flexible, but not floppy.

here is zoe in the beginnings of the hat i made her.  kate realized zoe did not have a hat and it was cold.  so i made her one, and put the long "braided pig tails" for the ties.  i forgot to get a photo of her in the completed hat, but this is how it looked before the last row and the pig tails.

well, the blanket got much larger, but zoe needing a winter hat took preference when the temps dropped into the 20s and kate realized she didn't even own a winter hat since she had grown.
