I have a Dell XPS 8700 that I bought several years ago and I love it.  It was the first computer that I bought that didn't have an Intel processor.  If I remember correctly it has a 6 core AMD with 6Gigs of ram and 1Terabyte hard drive.  I love mine.  It's actually a low-end game machine if you want to use it for that.  I installed COD-4 on mine and it works great.

Mine has Windows 7 but I hear that Windows 8.1 is pretty good.

Your machine sounds like a good one!

Also left out hard drives.
- Old one had a 80 GB (main) and 160 GB (storage).
- The new has 1 TB (currently 875 GB free of 919 GB).

Windows 8.1 is sure is different, love it also, learning it quickly.

jim, i actually prefer amd processors.  both my netbook and laptop have them.  from what i have seen, they are cheaper and better quality (i've been using amd processors for about 12 or so years now (or longer?).  as for windows 8.1, like william said, there is a learning curve.  it actually reminds me more of windows 3.1 than the ones between now and then.  although it is cleaner, faster, and lots of fun.  my only "problem" with it is that it does not come pre-loaded with the card games like free cell, etc.

i have friends though who won't use it, they instiall "classic shell" which is a free program to give the feel of 7 or xp.  that works fairly well also, and the toggle between them is not problematic.

My understanding is that the new Windows 10 will combine 8 & 7. and you'll be able to use it either way...
Dear Lord, On this day, please wrap your arm around my shoulder and keep your hand over my mouth.  Amen

I've used Intel since 1993-94 on my first real computer (Packard Bell, Intel 486SX 33 MHz, 4 MB ram, Win 3.11 - then upped the processor to 66 MHz, ram to 8* MB).

* if memory is right, its been awhile.

I've always been an Intel person too, up until this last computer.  It's worked out fine for what I do with it.  AMDs are usually cheaper than Intel and sometimes perform just as well depending on the application.  Many of the AMD CPUs are overclocked so they can process instructions as fast or faster than the Intel for quite a bit less money.

I'm just glad we get a choice!
