I hope so.  Today I looked out the window and a young deer was grazing in the front yard.  Then she went after the dead fall pears.  She seemed to think they were very good.

sheri, is your pear a "sand pear"?  i can't remember the proper name for them.  but, they aren't "eating" pears, they are cooking pears.  they are great for canning and you can use them from the jars as a substitute for anything you'd put apples in.  apple butter, apple pie, apple crisp, etc, i've made it all with sand pears.  and canning them is super easy too.  they are a sugar/lemon/water bath canning project.
My friends here are some of the kindest on earth :kissies:

well it isn't 213 but I thought I would just keep this one going rather than start a new one since there is so much room.  Let me know if that is a booboo.

I bought another plum tree.  It is getting acclimatized while I get motivated to dig a hole in the clay for it.  I don't know what specimen of plum it is, Walmart you know?

The grafted cherry died.  That is two so there probably won't be a 3rd one.

The new plum seems to be doing well.

The cherry has stems on it so maybe this year there will be cherries.  That would be nice.

The bartlett pear has me confused.  Some branches had blooms and some didn't and most of the ones with blooms were at the top of the tree.  Anyone have a good link for bartletts and how they grow?

This doesn't answer your questions really but it's all I found.

very nice article.  It might be a lack of water that is causing my spotty harvest.  I'll try to do better this year.

Do you have another pear tree nearby?

Good, they have a better chance in groups of two or more.

so far the moonglo refuses to bloom at the same time but I have hope.  It's suppose to be a match for the bartlette.

jiffy I looked up pictures of sand pears but I don't think they are.  Whatever the deer seem to love them.
