I just read the worst book I've read in a long time and my book club friend agrees.  She didn't even finish it.  I thought it would be good because it's historical fiction, The Orphan's Tale by Pam Jenoff, about the circus in Germany during WW2.  It's amazing that Hitler allowed the circus to continue to continue performing and it's amazing that people had money to pay to go.  The backstory is horrible.  Don't read it.

I have to tell you that there were only 2 of us at the book club who didn't like that book.  The others loved the way all the ends were tied at the end (even though it was so unbelievable that it could have been classified as a fantasy) and they all loved that the characters were concerned with trivial bits of their lives rather than the fact that the SS officers could shoot them dead at any second and the fact that they were all starving.  The other person who didn't like it didn't like it for the same reasons I didn't. Oh well.

See, I wouldn't have liked it either for those same reasons.  I don't mind fantasy, but neat packages with bows just aren't real.

sheri, i looked into that book. i remember seeing it when it came out.  but i decided i wasn't ready for it mentally.  i'm still a little sluggish.

i just finished kathy reichs' new book "two nights".  i say new, i think it came out last year, but it is her latest.  it's not a temperance brannen (the inspiration for the tv show "bones")  and it is written slightly differently, but it has a great twist to the end, and a good overall plot.  i liked it.  i'm waiting to see if she'll make it a series or not.  i'm also reading the Preston & Child "A.X.L. Pendergast" series.  It's very different.

Born a Crime has a lot of humor Jen.  Might make you laugh.  I've read a couple of Kathy's early books.  Shelley took one or two of her classes when she was at UNCC.

I'm reading the Maisie Dobbs series for my bookclub.

Wow, it's been a long time since we posted here. I've read 2 books worthy of putting here in the last month. Both fairly new releases even.

The first one was "Long Road to Mercy" by David Baldacci. It's the first in a new series, with the main character a strong woman. I heard a radio interview with him about it, and decided I'd read it, or try to, when it came in. I did and really enjoyed it.

The latest one was "Watcher in the Woods" by Kelly Armstrong. It's not the first on the series, but was good enough to stand alone. I'll be going back and reading the rest of the series.  The series is "Rockton" and the main character is Casie Duncan. I think I read one, or part of one a while ago, but I'm not sure. I've read her "fluffy" stuff and liked it. I'm glad her serious stuff is as good.

I'm reading Jimmy Carter's "An Hour Before Daylight" about growing up in the rural south before and during the depression.  It's good so far.

I read Prairie Fires:  The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder.  It was good but long and intensive.

I'm reading The Bakers Secret and I love it.  Some of the reviewers have mentioned that the stuffed baked isn't authentic to the culture but during a war you bake what you can bake.

I've got the new Mel Brooks biography "Funny Man" on my to read shelf. I might look into the bakers secret. I'm getting short on stuff to read.  Again.

Mel Brooks was a dud. Way to long on the fact listing without being well written. I guess you'd say it was choppy.

I just finished "Hope" by Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus about their 0 year ordeal in Cleveland. It was really good.

I just finished "Where the Crawdads Sing".  It was a good book, all but the ending. I didn't like the ending. I won't say what it was, but I won't read any more of her books.

Read the Crawdad book and agree with you.  The imagination has to be stretched a LOT to believe most of that book.

What’d you think about Human Cadavers?  I laughed a lot and Johnny said I’m a weirdo.

Reading Radium Girls and it’s pretty good.
