Christmas Lighted Wreath Wall Hanging
« on: Feb 19, 2016, 09:01:42 AM »
This is a small one.  I got the panel awhile back and then got the lights.  Then realized I needed more lights.  So I just ordered them.  The I sandwiched the quilt.  Now it is on to the quilting and making the button hole openings for the lights.  I'm excited about this one.  Not sure how I'm going to quilt it yet.  i'm thinking trellis pattern for the inside and outside and leave the wreath fluffy.  Then the trick will be couching down the wires so they stay in place without damaging them or having it show through the front.

yeppers that's the saying.  i'm still thinking what the entire design will look like while I'm stitching probably not the best was to design it.  But there it goes.

I'm taking out the hand stitching basting it and then machine stitching it.  I drew out a design on Sunday that I'm very happy with.  It takes what it takes I suppose.

Well I thought I could machine baste it but not on my machine.  So I'll have to hand baste it.  And I can't use tracing paper over a sandwiched quilt worth a darn.  Live and Learn I suppose.  So now I need a disappearing ink pen in a light color that will show over the dark green.  It is always something.

I could machine baste it and I did.  It's not what I expected but it did work.  So the first part of the quilting is now done.  Yay!  It's progress.

I've done the design inside the wreath to the halfway point.  And I'm working on the straight rows of stitching on the outside of the wreath.  Once those are done i'll do the FMQ'ing around the printed ribbon.  After that it is the hand satin stitch around the 31 light bulb holes.  That should be time consuming.  But I'm excited by the way it looks up to now.

believe me I understand what you're saying.  At lunch after the last business meeting I mentioned the need to develop a "quilter's eye."  I believe that for me this is going to be a matter of experience and practice since it did not come natural.  It's being able to look at a fabric and picture it in the finished quilt.  It is often called auditioning a fabric.  Right now I can't do it worth a hill of beans.

I only used a straight stitch around the holes but it looks ok.  It is now finished and I'm pleased with it.  Pictures in late april.

With the photo program on the stand alone I have to wait on Clyde at the quilt club to post pictures on the club site and then link to them.  He takes better pictures than me so in the end it is a good thing.
