Getting scammed.
« on: Jul 23, 2017, 08:43:24 AM »
Just thought I'd put a heads up out there. One of Chloe's therapist got scammed out of $60. Its the same old "you got spyware on you computer - we can clean it for you..." scam with a twist:  She was having problems getting into her Iphone. She called the 1-800 number for Iphone. The guy on the phone asked to log in to her computer (1st clue, she was calling about her phone) and proceeded to tell her she had over 80 spyware/virus programs on her computer and he could clean it off for $60. She made the payment over the phone and he "cleaned her computer" then said he'd have the right department call her back. The Iphone folks did call her back.  When she was relaying what had happened to that point, they told her to hang up, stop payment, and change her card, that it wasn't them. Gave her a direct number to call the tech back when she was done.

1. The twist here is that she placed the call..
2. He did somehow have Iphone people call her back.

So somehow the original call was intercepted. I guess placing the call yourself is not an assurance anymore. Be very careful out there folks.

Oh, and she is still locked out of her phone. She had to go to verizon for in person assistance yesterday. Said they are going to have to get all her stuff off of it and reset it, and put her stuff back on. Sure hope they got her fixed up. She was so upset when she was here on Fri.  Also, her Ipad that she uses in her therapy sessions was stolen out of her car. So she was not a happy camper. It was insured and already replaced, but she has to download/install all the programs she had on it. I felt really bad for her.

Dear Lord, On this day, please wrap your arm around my shoulder and keep your hand over my mouth.  Amen

I'm curious as to where she got the Iphone number that she called.  Lots of times, you will go to a website on your Iphone and it will open a window that says you must call a specific number because your iphone is corrupt.  Of course these are all scams.

I'm still getting the IRS scam calls on my phone.  It never ceases to amaze me how gullible these scammers think we are.  I saw a YouTube video where someone turned the tide on the robocallers and tied up their phone lines by robocalling them with a scammer message.  It made me smile.

I've been getting FBI emails in my spam folder. They say my personal info has been compromised and to click on their link with my personal info on hand. Well, the first time on came it wasn't to spam. But it soon got kicked there and the ensuing couple went to spam.
Jerks.

Have my parents not to say anything and just hang up when calls from IRS, tech support, US government, or some other form of US government come through.

As for links in email, do not ever click on them. Unless from a (very) trusted source.
