Am I the only one that does this?

This morning I wanted to make a butter sauce for the brussel sprouts.  I got out the escoffier cook book broke the recipe down to a smaller amount.  and had it perfect.  Turned my back on it to do something i don't even remember what and it boiled.  NO!  The recipe said to make sure it didn't boil.  How could it do that the stove was set on 3?  Anyway it curdled.  I made a special trip into town to get cream for that silly recipe.  Grrrrh.

Does this kind of thing ever happen to you?
