Baking
« on: Oct 26, 2016, 08:48:36 AM »
What I used to never do.  But I've started.

I'm making a box (duncan hines) Pumpkin shaped mandarin orange and spice cake,  French Vanilla Filling, and Cream Cheese frosting.  The second cake is cooling.  The frosting and filling are made and just waiting their turn to be added to this halloween treat.  I'm taking it to the meeting today.  I plan to wear my feather mask too.  We'll see if I chicken out.

I forgot the mask.  the filling made the cake slippery and it wouldn't stay together.  Teach me why the professionals use skewers.  So I took half of it to the meeting.  It was well received and people were even willing to take some home for later.  Now I have half a large bowl of cream cheese frosting left over.  Any ideas?

I tried backing again.  This time with all pre-made ingredients.  It is a cherry cheese danish desert.  More like a pie or cobbler than a danish maybe.  It isn't enclosed in individual packets.  Of course the first thing I found out was it gave me heartburn.  What a pain.

I made a lemon meringue pie the other day; which by the way, never do when you're home alone because you'll be convinced you should eat a lot of it by yourself.  I guess that's not officially baking since the only baked part is the crust and meringue, but I did use a lot of kitchen tools, a pot, had to separate eggs, and zest and squeeze 2 lemons, and made a gigantic mess.  Found out I own a lemon zester.

I made chocolate muffins that were ok but not great.  Then I tried chocolate donuts that were drying than the dessert.  I won't make them again.  Now I have a 10.00 dollar donut pan that I may never use again lol.

Try a different donut recipe.
