:Wow:  Those are really some awesome pictures, and the photos are so sharp, Kratz!  What kind of camera do you have?  :dunno: I'm interested in knowing what that pink flower is in the first picture.  :ScratchHead:

Those are absolutely tremendous.  I've been trying to catch some butterflies since the last few you had posted but so far either I don't have my camera when I see one or I don't see any when I do.  I saw a couple of very pretty ones the other morning while I was mowing the back field but of course didn't have my camera.

Thanks for sharing.  Keep em coming.

Thanks Jim and Patches,
 :goofy:

The first flower is thistle.....they are letting the field behind us go wild, and the thistle is everywhere....birds and butterflies love it......
I actually have a digital camera it's a Leica 4.3 digilux.....it is an absolutely awesome camera. It has a macro lens it does 80 seconds of video woth sound and has too many other features to mention. I have had it for about 5 years and it never ceases to amaze me with the quality of photos it takes.

I love the butterflies in our area, they seem so eager to pose for the camera.

I take my camera outside with me quite a bit. Often times I have been outside and missed a "persect photo" as the critter flies away to fast. So I fully understand the concept of missing a great shot.

I went to Walmart and had a few photos printed, I will use a few in the dollhouse too. I love using my own photos. Here's a few more......

Great shots, Charlotte!

Is that a butterfly bush that is in the second post?

Geesh, some more awesome shots of butterflies. :Wow: I was wondering what kind of zoom lens is on your camera.  :SmileyQmarks: I have a small digital Cannon that takes some wonder photos, but I believe the zoom lens is only 2X, so I can never get close enough to the birds or butterflies to get a decent shot.  :SmileyFit:

Hi Patches,

I have a Leica Digilux 4.3 Camera, it has alot of settings that I can change to get a closer photo. It has the settings of basic, normal and fine for the photo quality ( I always use fine...if you're gonna take a photo...make it a great one) the camera is about 5 years old but it works as well as when it was new....I still sometimes find different things it can do..... I read the book, but not really.....Hard to understand the jargon....lol
It can do night photography, 80 sec. video with sound/ portraits, multi photos....hold button for longer and get three photos.......
The lenses are
1:2.8-4.45/8.3-24.9mm it's all attached inside the camera......

My hubby picked it out for me, he did a great job....... :goofy:

Here's some more photos.....

Hi Dianna,  :)

yes that is a butterfly bush in the second photo....... good eye.....

Okay, I got that - NOT!!!   :rofl1: Geesh, with all the buttons I'm sure I couldn't never work something like that!   :ScratchHead: I probably need a "point & shoot" one with a GOOD zoom lens.  I am sending your description to a friend who might be interested in it.  ;)  Thanks a bunch!!!

:Wow: More gorgeous pictures, Charlotte!  I love them!!!  Keep them coming!  You do a wonderful job with your pictures.

Hi patches,   :hi:
thanks for the compliment.....I just like sharing photos........I also do alot of gardening....
I would recommend the Leica camera to anyone interested in going digital.....It does have alot of features but well worth learning. I didn't mean to overwhelm you with "tech" talk.... I only know certain things......   photography was my way of learning the computer. It had to be something of interest to me to make me want to learn it. Otherwise I could've cared less....lol

Do you take pictures of your flowers and or critters in the yard?

Here's a few more photos..... :goofy:

enjoy,

this one reminds me of  Winter butterfly......

and this butterfly was resting......

Have a great day,

P.S. I also have my 1" scale dollhouse photos on this site...in hobbies if yo would like to check them out......the digital allows the pick to look more realistic....... here's some  dollhouse photos on this link

Hi Charlotte!   :hi:

Awesome pictures!  I love the first picture and for some reason it seems like it should be on a Christmas card framed in red with gold and black edging.  Like a touch of spring during the cold of winter. ;)  I guess it's the pine tree.  :nutz:

Charlote, I can certainly understand why after seeing your pictures, but I'm sure it is a little out of my price range.  :yikes: I have a Cannon Power Shot S110 digital Elph that I got over 5 years ago and it works great, but it just doesn't have the zoom quality I wanted of needed.  :( At the time, I had to make a choice between size and zoom lens, and I chose the size so I could put it in my pocket and take it when I went places with the my grandkids (e.g. Six Flags, if it's in a plastic bag I can put it in my pocket and even go on a water ride).  The picture quality is great, I just can't get any close-ups of the critters in my yard.   :SmileyFit:

Quote

I take lots of pictures of my flowers and garden beds and I have some of them posted here at SSH,  ;) but for reason stated above I miss getting shots of all the critters, birds and butterflies that call my yard home.   :Crybaby2:

Actually, Charlotte, I've been making miniatures for over 40 years and I love them, but with school, and my gardening I just don't seem to find the time for devote to it like I did before.  :crying: :Vent: Geesh, I did that while I was raising two kids on my own and I thought of all I could do when they were out of the house, but now it seems like I have less time.

I am very interested in checking out the link you sent because I always used the 1:12 too!  Unfortunately, I will have to do it later because right now, I'm going to have to run out to get a new print cartridge.  :(

Chat with you later!!!

Hi Patti,

Thanks and I agree about the first one being on a Christmas Card. I thought that as soon as I saw the photo, it's sometimes easier to notice a great (not trying to brag, sorry) picture once it's downloaded. The best thing about my digital is the fact that my hubby bought it for me, I would have looked at the price and said "no way", but I'm Super glad he did. I have alot of photos posted on photobucket....here's my link.....feel free to check any of my photos.

http://s103.photobucket.com/albums/m148/Charlie7_01/

It sounds like you have a nice camera...I'm actually bugging for a new Leica with different qualities.....As I Love my Leica, I want to be able to take a photo from a greater distance and get it to look like a close up......

I'm a teaching assistant .....  ......  so I do alot of gardening and since I have Summer's off, I can pretty much enjoy the outdoors all Summer. I love to take photos of all kinds of things. But I especially like the Summer flowers and critters.

What kind of miniatures do you make?
I have a 1" scale dollhouse, so I love decorating it. It's fully electric and everything.  My hubby did the electric work and stuff.....
I do have photos of it posted in pb too

What subject/s do you teach? I'm in the learning support , where I go to reg ed classes with my special ed kids. Although our kids are not real far off the mark.....more just support.....back up notes, help study and help with projects and  other things. I enjoy my work alot.... 8) and the kids are awesome.....

Well, I better get going for now, nice chatting with you

Take care and have a great day,

Kratz7 (Charlotte)

Hi Charlotte!   :hi:

Sorry I'm just getting back to you, but last week we had faculty meetings, a union meeting and some workshops, and I totally forgot about this thread  :SlapSelf: because I usually don't go to hobbies.   :smileyNo: I am so sorry!!!   :( Things have been hectic with all the new changes at school since we got the union in there.   :nutz: Classes began this week, and I'm just now catching my breath.  Then today when I saw a new post in Butterfly Photos I remembered.

Charlotte, I checked out all your photos on Photobucket and they are terrific.  :Wow:
You certainly have a way with your camera, but you also have some great material to work with.   ;)

Quote
It sounds like you have a nice camera.

Yes, I really do because it takes nice, clear pictures.  It's just that I can't get any of the closeup shots that I would like to take of some of my butterflies and critters I have in my yard.   :SmileyFit:  Charlotte, you can see of the pictures I have taken in "My 2007 Beds & Blooms" in the Posies thread.   ;)

Quote
What kind of miniatures do you make?

Charlotte, I use a 12:1 scale for everything, and I've made dollhouses, furniture, and all kinds of accessories (e.g. rugs, lamps, bowls of fruit, etc).  The list is endless because if I needed something I made it.  :Whis:

Right now, all I'm teaching is General Psychology, but I've taught Human Sexuality, Child Psychology, Adolescent Psychology and Death & Dying in the past.

I'm going to run for now and try to get a few things done before I have to leave for school.  Catch you later!

I've only seen this butterfly once or twice this Summer, I'm not sure what kind of butterfly he is though......

I start back to school on Monday....so I'll need to use my afternoon time to the max........ :ScratchHead:
I'm going to miss my afternoons at home playing with the critters......

All good things must come to an end...... :crying:

Oh geesh, Charlotte, your photos are awesome!!!  :Wow: Are those pictures you have taken recently?   :ScratchHead:  I know that my flowers sure don't look anything like  that now because all my Euchinacea blooms have dried up.  :SmileyFit: I really love the Euchinacea in the first photo, do you know the name of it?

Hi Charlotte!  :hi:

I do love all the pictures of your butterflies, and now I can cancel my subscription to Birds & Blooms. :rofl1:  Geesh, your photos are as good as any of the photos I've seen there. ;) Actually, I've always thought there was something very special about butterflies and fireflies. :Wow: It's something almost magical, if that makes any sense.   :ScratchHead:

Again, some awesome butterfly photos, Charlotte.  We really enjoy seeing your photos.  The colors are so vivid and you sure have a talent with the butterflies.  They are so beautiful and somehow you are able to capture that with your photos.  Not everyone has that talent.

I don't see very many actually.  Usually see a few when we mow the back field but not too often up around the house.  Maybe we need some flowers that they like and we would see more of them.

We have lots of dragonflies.  Those little buggers are tame I think.  They seem to be curious because every time I am outside doing something, they are always around as if they want to see what I am doing.  I haven't had a chance to get the camera out when I notice them but hope to get some shots of them one day.  We try to take care of them because they eat so many skeeters.

Wow! You got lots of really good shots. You could make a whole collection of butterfly notecards!
I havent gotten many butterfly shots at all this year. UNTIL yesterday. This tithonia is outide my store. There were 3 or 4 monarchs on it who didnt mind sitting still for a pic for me.

Look, I know the supernatural is something that isn't supposed to happen, but it does happen...RZ

Beautiful butterflies Tonya and Wrennie, I especially like the black butterfly with yellow.....any idea of what species that is? It's gorgeous! I don't know that we have that type around our neck of the woods. I would love to see more photos if yo have any.

Jim,

I totally love dragon flies...... I hope you can take some photos for us. I had a dragon fly in our yard last week, but he didn;t want to land and have his photo taken....maybe he was camera shy....lol
Ill have to keep an eye out for him today, I'll try ....but they are so fast.... I wonder which is faster a hummingbird or a dragonfly....lol
