Dragonflies
« on: Sep 02, 2007, 09:16:28 PM »
I went out this evening looking for dragonflies and here's what I found.  There was a big one that kept flying around but he never would land so I could get  shot of him.  He was as big as a hummingbird.  Maybe I can catch him tomorrow.

Anyway here are a couple of green ones that were flying around together.

Here is a blue one

And a brown one

I'll try to get some more tomorrow.

Oh those are very pretty!  Nice shots you got there Jim!

We are all under the same stars, therefore we are never far apart.

Very pretty. We don't see many dragonflies here now anymore. Nice to see some pics of them.

Our dragonflies seem to be curious.  When you are outside doing something they will come around like they want to see what it is you are doing.  We've had them land on our hands a number of times.  Dianna tried to get one to sit down on her hand when I was out taking the pictures but they must have known because they wouldn't come near her.

They are pretty and they eat the skeeters.  Two really good reasons to like them.

I've been seeing a big one flying around.  I'm going to try and get a shot of him later today.  They are always around when I am trying to grill.

Jim, I love your pictures, thanks for sharing them.   ;)  I was interested in the green one and the brown one, because all I ever see around here are the blue ones.  :ScratchHead:

There are 5574 species of dragonflies (including damselflies) in north america. And new ones are being discovered.
