Stuffed Cabbage Rolls – Goblaki
(This is the one I use in my Slo-Cooker)
Ingredients:
12 leaves cabbage
1 cup cooked white rice
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup minced onion
1 pound extra-lean ground beef
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
1 1/4 teaspoons ground black pepper
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Directions:
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Boil cabbage leaves 2 minutes; drain.
In large bowl, combine 1 cup cooked rice, egg, milk, onion, ground beef, salt, and pepper. Place about 1/4 cup of meat mixture in center of each cabbage leaf, and roll up, tucking in ends. Place rolls in slo-cooker.
In a small bowl, mix together tomato sauce, brown sugar, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour over cabbage rolls.
Cover, and cook on Low 8 hours.
Makes 6 servings.

Don't forget the sauce, Triss, because that what makes this recipe special. Some people just put the tomato sauce on them and it's not the same.
Penny, do you use a special sauce when you make them?

You won't be disappointed!
As a matter of fact, if it stays cool this week-end, I may end up fixing this one night.

I have made cabbage rolls twice. I love them. The family gives them less than rave reviews - but none of them are doing the cooking!! I will definitely have to try these, patches. The recipe I use, I just pour regular tomato sauce right over the top of them.

I know a lot of people just use tomato soup or tomato sauce, but I think if you take a few mintures to make the sauce in the recipe, you will not be disappointed.
As it cooks down it thickens a bit and coats the Goblaki. I think it gives them a richer taste, it's just a slight hint of sweet and tangy.
