Title: Growing in the greenhouse
Post by: bestofour on Dec 14, 2011, 12:50:40 PM
I am proud to say that I have butter crunch lettuce growing in my greenhouse and a few tomato plants have broken ground.  I have to admit though that it has been unseasonably warm and in all actuality I probably could have grown them outside but it will get cold sooner or later and they'll be safe.

We had a salad from the green house butter crunch lettuce.  The tomato plants are growing - slowly - but they're growing.

It's actually been so warm I could have probably grown that lettuce outside but it sounds so fancy to say "growing in the greenhouse."

i like the sound of it too.  and while the days have been warm enough, i know you have to have had some nights like ours that would have froze the lettuce, so the greenhouse is good.

Well well well.  Everything in the green house looks pitiful.  I suppose from those few cold nights we had last week and I didn't even think about turning on the heat.  But the volunteer petunia is going strong.  How is that possible.  Right out in the weather.  Not even close to a tree or shrub for protection.  Mother nature.

That sucks, hopefully you'll be able to salvage some of the things.

Oh I'm not upset over it.  Bonnie should have told Johnny to remind me to turn on the heater.

I planted lettuce seeds in the greenhouse in November and over the weekend this is what I harvested.  Still got some growing.

Once you eat it you'll never be happy with store bought again.   Do you have an all year farmers market close by?  The one I go to is where I first found this.  A lady grows it all year long in her green house.  She sells it for $5.00 a head.  They're small heads so it takes 3 for us to have a bowl of salad that will last more than one day.  It saves me a little $$$ when I can harvest a few heads myself.

We do but it is awkward to get to and I've never been there. I have to find the seeds now.
