So my theme for this year is bags... Jessica made a bag today, and both of our Sarah's have made bags... so let's share them all here!
My first two of the year... Made on long Knifty Knitter Looms (working on instructions)
For myself
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2F100_9646.jpg&hash=f38599ab3c05a01fc9142c625cf8da96eaf0407c)
And for Alyssa.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2F2010%2F100_9679.jpg&hash=46395d65b1a379aa2672c78184f85bda7a1e5c54)
-
Very neat bags!
-
Cool, Triss. It is easier to see the detail on Lys' blue one. Those look good
-
Made this one tonight...
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi95.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fl150%2Fplantqueen%2F100_1508.jpg&hash=69dcb690eea410a257167159923394743f0d08c4)
Knit this one a while back...
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi95.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fl150%2Fplantqueen%2FMisc%2F100_0847.jpg&hash=fbc67c058f2b252a011cefac6edfdbaff3856335)
-
That knit one is awesome, a perfect pool bag!
-
It is meant to be a reusable shopping bag (that is what the pattern considered it) but I use it as a beach bag. Glad you thought it looked like that too. It works great for it!
-
I got a pattern for reusable shopping bags that I am going to try out. I also have a picture of a jean square bag on my cell that I am going to copy this week. Lemme see if I can get that up here.
-
This is the bag I want to copy
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2F2010%2F14858223546_ORIG.jpg&hash=ed101262f40e9913f9cee77581ad41ffd643ecea)
and here is the flannel material I got today to make bags with along with the jeans I already have.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2F2010%2F100_9680.jpg&hash=788ab3facc773b43d8a0b8914879461cff75dcd3)
-
very crafty.
-
Very nice everyone, you both do nice work,
-
I love that orange and black bag!! I can totally see why you would want to copy it. It would be a great GS project -- that is just awesome. The mouse in my head is really burning up his little spinner thingy.
-
Oh I know Sarah... mine is already going nuts. I will be getting black and orange flannel if I can find it to make a couple of bags for the kids teachers for an end of year gift.
-
I think the girl scouts could sell them.
-
I think the girl scouts could sell them.
That is a really good idea! The mouse is making his wheel smoke, now!!
-
That is a good idea now that I think about it more. Our girls are doing a year long community service project where they are making things to give to women in an assisted living home. They could sew a bag and use the bag as the holder for all of their other gifts.
-
Assisted living is where they are taken out on excursions once in a while so they could use a bag of some sort too. We knew a person in an assisted living place and she had a blast.
-
With what the girls have been making, we figured that the ladies in assisted living would appreciate and be able to use them more than a nursing home. So far they have canned jelly and made scarves.
-
Yep, they'll love it. My little friend would love having home made jelly.
-
They are planning a lot more and I sure hope we can get to it all.
-
I don't know how you do it Triss, family, school, sub, Girl Scouts.
-
Fortunately they are not all in the same day. I have grand plans for bags but have not done any since school started this week.
-
I keep having to stop myself, Triss. I'll go downstairs and think, I should really look at my fabric while I'm down here. But, I can't start another project right now. In a week. I can start a new project in a week!!
-
This one is a little bigger than the first one I made...
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi95.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fl150%2Fplantqueen%2F100_1513.jpg&hash=28dbcf33ea50cae44cf5aa38cba0312bbef18f83)
This one is the biggest but it is hard to tell because I have yarn in it.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi95.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fl150%2Fplantqueen%2F100_1511.jpg&hash=5d82d950380017d82a63ba3d5fa3d8af8ede572d)
I figure that I will make a few different sizes until I decide which size I like the best. It is always nice to have different sizes anyway.
-
Love the material there... cute!
-
I forgot to say that the second one in that post is flannel.
-
Those look so nice and colorful that it should make you smile to use them... :grinnnn:
-
love them.
-
Thank you!
-
They make me smile to see them. Good job, Jess.
-
Thanks, Tina. I am really enjoying making them and the fact that they can be made so quickly is a bonus. After I get tired of making these, I will look for a more complicated pattern to make. I'm not sure what I would want yet though so I will wait.
-
Great job ladies.
-
Started work today on my first jean square bag. Here is my layout for the project. Whatcha think?
The sides of the bag

Edges and bottom

-
That is pretty, Triss. A lot of primary colors.
-
Very colorful. You will be able to spot it if you misplace it... :wink5:
-
Mrs. Fay is a 1st/2nd grade teacher. I thought it fit well.
-
Looks great, Triss!
I made another bag on Saturday and took pictures. I just need to get them uploaded and try to write something with them that makes sense. I will try to do that tonight.
-
Looking forward to seeing them!
THe sewing on this bag is very fast. Got one panel done and am working on the next one.
-
Can't wait to see it completed!!!
-
Maybe today, at least the put together part. It will take a while to get it washed and frayed.
-
Triss, I can't wait to see it finished! You are killing me here making me wait. And you are making my urges to craft harder and harder to resist! :SmileyNailbiting: Must. Remind. Myself: Girl Scouts. Cookies in oven. Make copies. Finish flyers. No crafts. No time. Stop thinking about crafts!! :dunno:
-
Ok Sarah... here you go. Well as least as much as I have done. I need to cut and fray it and add a handle.
The inside of the bag

Outside

Bottom... a solid jean bottom was Dan's idea.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2F2010%2F100_9748.jpg&hash=89b9cdd032452e4224996caae1d1b1e233a3ee62)
Filled with things.

-
I think the teacher will love it... :good2:
-
Looks great! I think the solid jean bottom is a good idea. More durable.
-
I agree Jessica. I am glad Dan thought of it cuz I had my mind set on piecing one together. I am also going to make a solid jean handle but I need Lys to find me a pair of her jeans with holes in them. She has the long legs that will make a good one. The lil boys jeans were barely long enough for the bottom.
-
I think it looks lovely, Triss.
-
Thanks so much!
-
love it.
-
i like it too :) glad you shared. that is cool looking.
-
I am very happy with how it turned out. I have been looking for my snipper tool and cannot find it... may be packed so I will have to get a new set before I can do any more.
-
I finished my bag today and just in time because Mrs. Fay is headed out today for her surgery next week. Please keep her in your prayers.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2F2010%2F100_9754-1.jpg&hash=98ba8035893f821a4e58b4bfc08b633a841410eb)
-
That is too cute, Triss! :good2:
I am sure Mrs. Fay is going to appreciate it...
-
That is such a cute bag, Triss. I know that Mrs. Fay will love it!!
-
I sure hope so, she is an awesome teacher and both Lys and Jonny have thrived under her teaching.
-
That is very cool, Triss. Will pray for Mrs. Fay.
-
very nice bag, and will also pray.
-
cute. She'll love it.
-
Triss......i love it, its so pretty.....well done,
-
She did like it... I made her cry though. We sure are going to miss her over the next couple of months.
-
Finished up Lys' bag... it is made from a jean skirt so it was just a few stitches and snips to make it work. I added a patch of flannel to give it some character. Still needs a couple of more washings to really make it fray but she wants to use it tomorrow.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2F2010%2F100_9766.jpg&hash=8fba5b811e44d616d318bfe08b8044e8a35e1404)
-
That is cute and something like I want to do with my 'pant tops' I'm saving. Only I'm going to tack them all together for an over the door storage thing.
-
Very cute!!
-
 i like!
-
Triss, are you doing your homework???
-
That is so cute, Triss. I am sure Lys loves it... :good2:
-
I end up using the cute pockets for other things but not a door hanger though it is a good idea and one I am sure I will use in the future... we go through a lot of jeans in a year here.
Nope, no homework this weekend... cannot concentrate on it.
-
I just wanted to post this here as well since it is a bag... should have done that from the beginning.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2F100_0200.jpg&hash=c0dfaa8c9ab8a7f29be35f3628d8d6f6231128d0)
-
But we need a new general sewing thread open as well so all is well. Besides, it is worth seeing twice!
-
Thanks Tina. I am laying out my next bag. I need to pick up some material to finish off the very first one I started as well. I also want to get some ribbon so I can try a couple of Jessica's bags. Rolling along here.
-
I managed to get a lot accomplished today and tonight. I sewed up 8 of Jessica's project bags but I could not finish them because I forgot to pick up the ribbon tonight. I also just finished the final layouts (lining, bottoms, and interfacing) for 2 shopping bags. I am hoping to have them all finished tomorrow. I think after these I am going to switch it up and do a jean bag.
-
I love it Triss, well done.
-
I got 8 project bags/gift bags finished today.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2F100_0206.jpg&hash=838ffd442608c07c93be8a249bd31720d50b620c)
-
They look great, Triss!! How did it go using a knitting needle to put the ribbons through?
-
I used a yarn needle to pull them through and it worked out perfectly! I did not have any problems at all because the yarn needle is larger and plastic, it slid right through.
-
Good.
-
My latest shopping bag.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2F100_0211.jpg&hash=37c79d06edd5319422a463a5d54f2e01c9981065)
-
Love it! The colors look great.
-
very nice. I love the colors... colorful without being overly bright.
-
That is very pretty, Triss. I think when I go green enough to begin to carry my own bags I will make them. I don't like the sizes available in the stores now. I want a bigger bottom and just bigger. About the size of the paper grocery bags. I want to carry in as much as possible each trip from my car to the house with the fewest trips. I don't want a bag spilling all over in my vehicle so a flat bottom filled with the heavier items is best.
-
Thanks everyone... I was a little worried about the lime green at first but it worked out nice.
Tina, this bad looks sloped but it really isn't and it is quite a bit bigger than a Safeway or WM bag and I believe a lot more sturdy as well with the double fabric and interfacing.
-
I dislike the Walmart plastic bags for the same reasons I stated before. Things fall out and roll all over the van or the trunk or...
I love my grocer's stand up paper bags so basically I want to sew a sturdy version of those. With handles looped all the way around the bottom, webbing I think. Don't mind me, I have been mentally designing my bag for a while.
-
Sounds good Tina. I still have to test mine and see how they hold up to being in the trunk, etc. I forgot to take the bug bag into the store the last time I went shopping.
-
Yes, remembering will be trick for me too.
-
Well the bag made it to the car so that is a step in the right direction.
-
on the remembering, kate (my daughter) has bags she uses, her "effort to be green" as she calls it, and to remember to take them in, she puts her purse in them when she gets in the car to go to the store. and in them when they are emptied in the house to remind her to take them back to the car. they live in her trunk. when we are together, she puts my stuff in her bags too.
-
Yes, it will just take some self-training. I don't carry a purse. California is trying to pass a bag law, a buck a bag tax from any store. So I do need to get it in my future soon.
-
Target gives you 5 cents off for every reusable bag that you use. 5 cents isn't much but it adds up over time.
-
Other stores give a discount as well.
Finished my latest bag.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2F100_0213.jpg&hash=5bb7a81f03bea8b40156caec9838b24d624fd0d1)
-
That one is pretty, too, Triss.
-
Thanks Tina, that was the original one...I really learned what not to do on it but I am happy with how it turned out.
-
Those are great Triss.....nice job!
-
I made a special bag for Charlie so that he can carry his trains and tracks back and forth to the babysitters on the days I work... He loves it!
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2F100_0226.jpg&hash=27594faffa933b83aebde56db3d9fc526285415c)
Also today I finished up a jean square purse and a jean square lunch bag. They have to run through the wash and the lunch bag needs a button before I can call either of them complete.
-
Charlie's bag is awesome. I love it.
-
:good2: Great bag. I'm sure Charlie loves it.
-
Oh he does, he already claimed it and is excited about taking it to Cori's tomorrow while I work.
-
And I am excited for him. And for you going to work.
-
that is cute, and happy for you and him on the work thing!
-
I am thrilled about working... I get 15 hours this week... half days but still. I am stoked! Charlie has his bag full of trains and is ready to go.
-
that really is so good. and money to make more bags :giggle:
-
The hope is to sell some of these bags so I can support my habit. :grinnnn:
And that raises the question... how much would any of you pay for one of the shopping bags?
-
Awsome job on the bag for Charlie, too cute.
