Title: Redundant files
Post by: bayou girl on Jul 16, 2016, 09:47:57 PM
Jim, do you know of a program to help you identify redundant files - such as the photos that are saved in one place, backed up to another, and still in a third because I put them there to remind myself to burn them to disk for mom?  Or things like that?  The music cd I ripped to my laptop, only to discover I bought it on Amazon when it was on sale, and still yet, snagged and downloaded the single on one of their free music days?  I think you get the idea.  Can you help?

There are a number of programs that will help you find duplicate files but most are designed to find them in a single place.  I'm not sure you can put a list of locations to be searched.  Try searching for "find duplicate files".  There are a number of free programs out there but I'm not sure how they work.  Here's one:

I'll try this one Jim, and let you know how it does.  I have all my files on the laptop backed up (I had to re-image the hard drive yesterday) so i can do it without fear of losing anything!  I'll let you know.
