Title: The New Used Computer
Post by: duh on Jun 11, 2009, 06:45:14 AM
Well I'm getting a used Dell Computer today.  But I'm not getting rid of the old CPU.  Just in case something comes along that can clear that trojan horse.  But you can bet the first thing I'm going to do is install the programs that Dianna and Jim sent me on the new one.  I never what to go through this again.

I'm even saying goodbye to all my recipies and everything else on my old computer.  Just so I don't accidently transfer the virus.  I'd rather do without all my records rather than go through that again.

Thanks for sending those programs.

Tammy, you might want to get rid of old e-mails, too. I am wondering if that is where your trojan is hiding and that could be the reason you keep getting trojans on all of your computers that you have had....

You are welcome for the programs. Hope that they help keep you from getting reinfected... :NewHug:

Most of the versions on that disk are old now but when you install them, find the option to check for updates and go ahead and do the update.

Thanks for the info Dianna.  I don't keep old e-mails so that isn't a problem.  And when the trojan attacked the e-mail program I got a new e-mail address so there isn't anything from the old days there.  At least I hope not.

Thanks for the heads up Jim.  I appreciate the info.  I'll definitely update as soon as I get it up and running.

sorry about your files TK but I don't blame you one bit.  I wouldn't want to take a chance either.

What's hilarious is that now the old computer has stopped doing what it was doing.  So now I have two working computers and I'm out 300.00 bucks.  Grrrrrh.  It's hard to get ahead.  But now I can start printing out my files for typing into the new computer as I get the motivation.  Or maybe I'll find someone with a scanner and ocr software.

do you have a lot of files.  I saved all my files to a disc when we got this new computer and Johnny took our old one and gave it to someone to dispose of properly.  Too late I found out that this computer won't take a 3-1/2" disc.  It only uses CD's.  So all my stuff is sitting her on 3-1/2" discs.  I might someday download them at work and forward them to me via email.  Live and learn.

Hey best if you can't do it at work I can do it for you.  I have the 3 1/2 and the cd read/write one.  So I could even convert them to cd's for you.  Let me know.  I've finally gotten everything hooked up and now I'm installing the protection software.
