Land deeds are a great place to look for the history of a location. Each county keeps records of land deeds that date way way back. Also town hall records and city directories provide an awful lot of information.

Recently some counties even have the tax records/land records on the web. You can look most of them up by the address or tax plot number. I was surprised how much information was there, available from the internet.
Is the white pages of the local phone book a good place to find the office you would need to call if you wanted to go look at some of the old deed books? I was doing some genealogy research one time and there were specific hours that they allowed researchers. I would imagine that each county is different.
Good info, Aunt Bonnie! :)

I looked in the blue pages and found my register of deeds (under county government). Thankfully they don't have any special hours. Thanks for the tip, Bonnie!

So, Sarah- Any news on the research?? Did ya get a chance to go there and look yet?? I want to see if you can figure out who is pulling on your toe. :laughpound: Seriously, tho- it would be neat if you found something.

Not yet, Tonya. My husband keeps saying he's going to take a day off during the week - he's got 9 days to use before christmas - and I'm waiting for that. He's such a procrastinator though!!

I was going to ask the same thing too Sarah, any news yet?
Lets hope that he takes that day....and SOON!!
