My hummers are here! I've seen both male and female this week. I had not gotten around to putting feeders out last year, but was ready for them this time.  :yay_jump:

I really enjoy watching them. Mike bought me two small feeders, each about the size of a softball, so I could hang them from the ash trees that make an arch across the back yard. They seem to really like that spot, because it's out in the open, away from the house, and I've even seen them land on the ash trees and just hang out a while.  :grinnnn:

Doug got me a really cool feeder that hangs on the kitchen window so I can see them while I am washing dishes or cooking. So far- I don't think they like that one, but are already fighting over the big one out front!

Time to rescue this topic.  Apparently the day I left, March 19th, Dan saw the first hummers in our area.  That is 4 days earlier than I saw them last year.  so when I got home, I cleaned out and put out my feeders.  I have had a steady stream of the little darlings ever since.

While I do not have the best pics yet, I do have a great video from yesterday afternoon of a Rufus Hummingbird waiting out the snow on the branch of my Weeping Birch tree right next to my front porch.  I felt so bad for the lil guy and invited him in to get warm, but he declined my offer.

That is a great video, Triss.  I just love the little humming birds. I guess I need to drag out my feeders.

Last year it was the first week of April for you all.  I hope you get them soon!

Thanks for sharing that Triss, I won't see any of those little guys for a very long time, maybe August when they are migrating back south!! and never any that color, ours are a darker green.   I have lot's of hummingbird vine and Canna's that they love in August ...

We had snow this am, although a lot is already melted, I just had a woodpecker in my tree! He was gone last year, but I hope this is a sign he'll be back around this year. We had a Long-billed Dowitcher in the yard about a week ago when the river was flooded over, something we have never seen here.   :applause:

According to the migration map they have already been spotted as far north as VA but we haven't seen any yet.  I guess it's about time to put the feeders out though.

I am sure once the feeders are out you will see them right away.  You get quite a few of them, right?

We put the feeders out about three weeks ago. We had hummers the very next day. I guess they were already here.... ::)

We have hummers!  I am not sure how long they have been here (at my in-laws place) but I got dive bombed by one today.  I am going to try and find their feeders and put them out so I can get pics of them.  The one who buzzed me was green.

I put my feeders up two weeks ago, when I saw Hummers in the honeysuckle.

By the way. Do your red birds drink at the hummingbird feeders. Several times, I have seen the young ones drinking from my feeders.

The only birds I have ever seen at the feeders are the hummers.

I haven't seen any yet but I don't have my feeders yet.  I don't typically see them until the first week of May but with the crazy weather they may very well be back.  Maybe I will put out a feeder.  The orioles come to my feeders too.
