That is very cool Jim.  I love how it looks on the homepage.

Can the blocks be set up for one page or is it all of the rest of the forum or nothing.  I would love to see the blocks on the unread posts pages.

I found the switch to pick the pages the blocks are shown on.  Which blocks were you wanting to see on the unread posts pages?

When I logged in today after being not on the computer for a few days and just waking up I saw something newso I kinda looked like this  :thspeechless-vi:  guess I need to read more of the post so I am not dragging on the tail end.  Change is good keeps us on our toes...... excellent job on the portal.

Ah yes, we are always changing.  Small changes are ok, but we will try and stay away from big, complete changes.  Folks tend to get a bit nervous about those.  Even when we upgrade the site to SMF 2.0, other than the theme, most things will still look the same.

Jim, it would be nice to see the news, whose online and calendar.  I usually go to that page over the homepage and those things would be nice to see.  The arcade info once you get it up as well.

Done, I think.  Try it and see if that was what you were wanting.

Great, glad that was what you were wanting.  I just got the arcade block up as well.  I had to get some help from the young man that wrote the portal software.  The guy is awesome!

The arcade block is very cool.  I like that I can click on a game from it.

The block code was actually done by the guy that wrote the Arcade.  However it was throwing an error so I posted that on the SimplePortal support forum and it wasn't long till we had the solution.

I like this new portal, I've been watching to see what pages change and what stays the same .. You can set any page you want to the portal or just leave them as they were?   Are you done now making adjustments?

Yes, for now I'm done I think, but you know I like to tweak things so I may add something to the portal page.  Any of the blocks can also be set to display on the other pages of the forum.  Right now, other than the unread post page, the portal blocks only show on the portal page.  That is selectable from the Admin CP.

There are lots and lots of other blocks that folks have developed that can be seen at the dedicated support site for SimplePortal.  It is available here:

I've taken the portal down till tonight.  There is an update that I want to do to it and we will run without the portal till I get it installed later today.

ETA:  Updated the portal to the newest version.  Some of the icons changed and I like the changes.  Some additional blocks are now available as well.

I like the look of the new portal.  The user stats is laid out cool and the staff section looks nice.  The garden question of the day is great as well.

The Garden QOD is actually an RSS feed.  Right now it just displays on the portal.  I could set it to post into a topic each day but decided for now not to do that.  I have it posting in the test forum though.  I had several feeds on the portal a week or so ago but it seemed to slow things down because I couldn't control the number of entries.  The new update allows me to do that.

I had a recipe of the day and another feed from a real ghost stories site, in addition to the gardening QOD.  The Farmers Almanac site has several feeds that a person can grab.

How is the ghost stories feed?  REcipes are cool but we always share such good ones here already.

It was pretty good.  I'll have to find it again and give it a try.  Once we upgrade to 2.0 I may set up a board for the feeds with a bot poster, then some can be commented on.  Still lots of things to play with when we go to 2.0.
