News - SMF 1.1.8 and SMF 2.0 RC1 Released
(1/1)
Jim:
Two new versions of SMF were released tonight. Version 1.1.8 was released to fix some recent problems with the package manager and some additional security vulnerabilities that had been identified. I immediately updated our forum without a single error.
SMF 2.0 RC1 is the next generation of SMF. It has some enhanced features that are not available on 1.1.8. We will be upgrading here as soon as we get through the RC (release candidates). By then most of the mods we use will be updated and hopefully the theme as well. From your stand-point, they change will not be too evident as long as we can convert this theme. My estimation is that we should see a final version of 2.0 within the next 6-9 months.

I have noticed that some, just a few seem to be griping about the 'constant updates' - I think it is great that SMF provide speedy responses to security problems and provide new features.
Jim:
Yes, I do too. 1.1.8 was entirely unplanned. It is a direct response to security vulnerabilities that had been identified recently. I mean within the last 3 weeks or so. I think the developers do a fantastic job of trying to get the patches out before someone gets hit really hard with a hack attack. And getting 2.0RC1 out at the same time was fantastic.
The update is so painless too. It took all of 2 minutes to upgrade SSH. If I hadn't of mentioned it here I bet no one would have even noticed.

That is true, I would not have noticed had it not been posted
wimc:
So easy to update, taking only up to 2 minutes.
