I use vinegar in the coffee maker as well but to clean the pot and removeable parts I use a small amout of bleach in warm water and let them soak for about 10 minutes then hand wash them with liquid dawn.... I also use the bleach to clean out the plastic pitchers ... stains are gone in a matter miutes.

duh:
I tried the vinegar and it did well.  It sure is easier than scrubbing at it with the steel wool.  Thanks all.
