Triss, I would highly recommend you purchase or check out this book:  The Quilter's Ultimate Visual Guide: From A to Z hundred of techniques and tips for successful quiltmaking by Ellen Pahl.  I think you may find it extremely useful.  I know I still use it from time to time (I have to check it out, though, as I'm too cheap to buy it  :giggle: )
